The chief officer for this duty in Westmorland was Robert de Sandford, and in 1340 we find a promise by the King to pay John le Tailour of Brough 6 marks 6 shillings and 8 pence (£4.6.8.) for 34 stones of wool taken by Robert de Sandford and his fellows, appointed to take for the King’s use a moiety of the wool in the county of Westmorland. ................
