The mission of the Region IV Public Health Training Center (R-IV PHTC) is to strengthen competence of the current and future public health (PH) workforce in HHS Region IV (R-IV), introduce PH and health profession students to the value of working in local communities and medically underserved areas, develop a learning community within the R-IV PHTC and its partners, support a culture of learning within agencies, and contribute to the work of the national PHTC program. UAB will be responsible for program evaluation and collection of workforce development needs. UAB will review current policies, procedures and data collections systems to identify any improvements necessary to collect manage, analyze and tract data, to monitor PHTC operations and measure program performance.

The major goal of the UAB Research Center of Excellence in Arsenicals is to develop mechanism-based highly efficacious antidotes against chemical war-relevant arsenicals namely lewisite, diphenylchloroarsine, diphenylcynoarsine and diethylchloroarsine. The center comprises three research projects, two research support cores, a research and education core, and an administrative core. The common goal of the center is to provide a countermeasure to combat systemic effects of arsenical poisoning.
