Dear French 3 Parents,

I want to first thank you for encouraging your student to continue their study of the French language. By supporting your student, you are encouraging their efforts to become a member of a global community. Their use of French will take them far. The advantages of speaking another language will open them to new opportunities and increase their awareness and acceptance of all cultures and languages. I applaud your efforts in supporting their continued education in French.

Throughout the year, you can support your French student in a variety of ways. Please encourage them to complete the nightly homework. The homework is crucial for them to practice concepts learned in class that day or to further their listening and reading proficiency in the language. If it is a reading, please ask them if they have read and done their annotations with the reading. Also, a list of units and semester plans has been provided in this syllabus. As you can see, there is a unit project and unit exam planned for every unit. Please ask your students about their project and be sure they are not waiting until the last minute to do the project. Projects will usually take them a few hours to complete.

If your student is struggling, please encourage them to sign up for help and come in before/after school. Please also encourage them to consult their French tutor. I will be assigning each French 3 student a French honor society tutor to be available to them throughout the school year. French honor society students will also be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school from 3:20-4:00 for help. I will be available on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:00 and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:20-4:00 for help.

I plan to show two full-length French movies, during the school year. As the French do not have a rating system, please sign below that you agree to your student watching these films. If you DO NOT want your child to see the films, please please send me an e-mail, at schradja@, or call me at 217-351-3911 and we can discuss alternative assignments. If you DO agree to these expectations and to your child seeing French films, please sign below. Please also have your student sign to make them aware they are responsible for these expectations.

I approve my child watching these French films. ____________________ (Signature) _______ (Date)
