BASIC INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM

34 HSEM XXX-XXX Autumn Quarter 05

Purpose:

The student will be introduced to the basic principles of the National Incident Command System (NICS) and how this system should function in conjunction with the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The student will learn the purpose and functions of the various components of the NICS and how they inter-relate to form an efficient and effective whole.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion the student will be able to understand the NICS and EOC functions, explain the need for coordination, communication and decision making within the scope of the NICS. They will understand the need for clear roles, responsibilities and relationships through small-group exercises and simulations.

100 – 90 A, 89 - 80 B, 79 - 70 C

69 - 60 D, 59 and below F

Exercises / Projects:

Over the course of the class students will be expected to successfully complete at least 3 field exercises and/or projects wherein they will apply the material covered in the Handbook.
