Anyone 18 years of age or older and not attending regular high school may enroll at Fontana Adult School. Students seeking diploma credit should enroll prior to the third week of the semester. However, enrollment continues for many classes throughout the year. Check with the office. Students 16 years or older may attend adult education classes while concurrently enrolled at their regular high school, provided they have a referral from their high school counselor and meet the timelines for enrollment at FAS.How do I enroll at Fontana Adult School?? ABE or High School Equivalency (HSE: GED? / HiSET??) Test Preparation –You may register at Fontana Adult School. Once registered, you will take a reading assessment and placed in in entry level Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes or advanced level High School Equivalency (HSE -GED? / HiSET?? test preparatory class. Please allow 1-2 hours for the placement exam. Appointment is not necessary, walk-ins are welcome. ? High School Diploma–You may register at Fontana Adult School. Please bring your OFFICIAL most recent transcript(s). Once registered, you will take a reading assessment and meet with a guidance technician. The guidance technician will complete a transcript evaluation and an education plan. Please allow 1 hour for the placement exam and up to an hour to meet with the guidance technician. ? English Language Acquisition (Formerly known as English as a Second Language –ESL)–You may register at Fontana Adult School. ELA students will be given the CASAS test to determine placement in the proper level. Please allow 2 hours for the placement exam. Is ELA (ESL) taught at other schools?Yes. What is the CASAS placement exam? --The CASAS is the placement test that is required for accurate enrollment in HSD, HSE, ELA (ESL) & CITIZENSHIP classes.When is the CASAS Placement Test administered? --The CASAS placement is administered at the time of registration, appointment may be necessary. Is there a fee for the CASAS Placement test?--There is no cost for the test. Please allow 1 to 2 hours to properly complete the tests. Fontana Adult School has security at the main campus for day and evening classes. In addition, campuses are equipped with a 24-hour surveillance system. CONTINUING EDUCATION INFORMATION AND GUIDANCE Students receive information about local colleges and trade schools to prepare them for continuing the education process required for self-sufficiency and career improvement. Part of crime prevention is individual safety consciousness and awareness of personal environment. Fontana Adult School suggests the following crime prevention measures, which can contributes to personal safety and security.Do not leave valuable items in your car, including personal items and school related materials.Do not park in isolated areas.Keep doors of your vehicle locked at all times. Before entering a vehicle, always look around and in the back seat.Keep personal keys in your possession at all times.At night, travel in well-lit areas and in pairs, if possible. Avoid short cuts and deserted areas. Notice, and be aware of suspicious persons and conditions.Leave items of high monetary value at home.Do not leave personal property unattended.Do not carry more cash than necessary and do not advertise what you have.Mark personal items with your name and some other traceable identification.If anything makes you feel unsafe or threated please dial 9-1-1. Smoking in your vehicle while parked on campus is not allowed. Please leave campus if you want to smoke or vape.PARKING REGULATIONSAll California laws for driving and parking are enforced when you drive and park on campus. You must drive 5 mile per hour or less when entering the gates or while driving in the parking lots. Upon entering Fontana Adult Scholl premises, refrain from loud and inappropriate music. Please note that front office parking lot is reserved for new student registration or visitors. Sexual Harassment Policy It is the policy of the Fontana Adult School to provide for all students and employees, and educational, employment, and business environment free of all forms of harassment, exploitation, intimidation, or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, or other verbal, visual, or physical conduct or communications of a sexual nature as defined and otherwise prohibited by the California Fair Employment and Housing Act, California Education Code, and State and Federal rules, regulations, statutes and laws prohibiting sexual harassment and retaliation. FAS and Fontana Unified School District are strongly opposed to sexual harassment and expressly forbids sexual harassment of its students and employees by faculty, managers, staff, students or members of the general public. FAS will take whatever appropriate action to prevent, correct, and, if necessary, discipline inappropriate behavior. A form can be completed at the front office requesting transcripts. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY (CHEATING) Integrity is an essential component of the student academic experience. The academic evaluation a student receives for a course becomes a permanent record and it is critical that such records be accurate and consistent. The integrity students learn and exhibit at FAS will be a model for the professional integrity they practice when they complete future courses, in the work place, or in future college work. Accordingly, Fontana Adult School has classified academic dishonesty into the following categories: Cheating Plagiarism Unauthorized Collaboration Facilitating Academic Dishonesty Interference or Sabotage Fabrication Retaliation. Cheating in any of the ways listed can result in dismissal from FAS.ATTENDANCEStudents must attend class regularly in order to benefit from our programs. Regular attendance is important to learning: 3 or more days of absence may result in being “dropped” from your class without notice. Students with unique personal situations effecting their attendance are strongly urged to meet with their teacher or a Guidance Technician before being dropped from a class.Students must sign into class at the beginning and sign out at the end of class each session. Signing in and out is required during class. Children may not attend any FAS class with their parent.CLASS CANCELLATIONClasses are subject to cancellation if an enrollment of at least 15 persons is not maintained with a reasonable level of attendance. COMPUTER USEFAS and FUSD own and operate a network and a variety of computer systems for use by its faculty, students, and staff. FAS/FUSD encourage the use of its network and computer systems for education, academic development, and other approved purposes. When using FAS/FUSD network and computer systems, all users are required to abide by the policy established by FAS and the Governing Board and the associate procedures and to use the system in an ethical and lawful manner. FAS reserves the right to employ filters and/or software to limit access to undesirable sites and/or unsolicited materials. For more information, refer to: District Information Systems Student Acceptable Use Agreement.COURSE OFFERINGS:FAS offers a large and diverse menu of courses: ESL, Citizenship, High School Diploma for credit classes, High School Equivalency programs, Computer Based Instruction using APEX allows students to take almost any approved A-G course towards their diploma. Adult Fee Based CTE courses in the medical field are offered, as are Microsoft Office Specialist Workshops. Since 2018, FAS also offers career pathway certificates: Medical, Interpreter-Translator, Business Office, and Education. More pathways are in development. To get more information on each, please visit the office or the website at under Adult School Programs.DRESS & BEHAVIOR CODEFontana Unified School District dress and behavior codes are enforced. The policy is available in the FUSD, Fontana Adult School or on the website. Work or educational attire is the expectation. Hats and gang related clothing are prohibited.FORM REQUESTSFAS teachers cannot fill out any official forms, county forms or documents for students. Students must ask the office if they need any forms completed. Students must ask in a timely manner and 3 to 5 workdays is the normal expected time for the office to complete such a request. This includes Transcript Requests. Teachers must obtain administrative approval before writing a letter of reference for a student.FEESFEES FOR CTE PROGRAMFees are due at time of registration. Money order or voucher will be accepted. No credit card, cashier’s check, personal checks nor CASH will be accepted. Fees may be paid at the office. Payment plans may be allowed for some programs. INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALSHigh School Diploma classes may require instructional materials such as textbooks and/or calculators. Instructional materials may be borrowed; consult class syllabus for details. Upon borrowing textbooks, calculators or any other instructional material student assumes full responsibility for lost or damaged instructional material. LOST OR DAMAGED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALSEC Section 48904 (b)(1) allows schools to withhold student grades, diploma and transcripts:Any school district or private school whose real or personal property has been willfully cut, defaced, or otherwise injured, or whose property is loaned to a pupil and willfully not returned upon demand of an employee of the district or private school authorized to make the demand may, after affording the pupil his or her due process rights, withhold the grades, diploma, and transcripts of the pupil responsible for the damage until the pupil or the pupil's parent or guardian has paid for the damages thereto…REFUND POLICYRefunds will not be made without the original receipt. Students requesting a refund must complete a “Request for Refund” form. The request for refund must be made no later than 7 days after the start of class. All refunds will be charged a $5.00 processing fee. Please allow four weeks for processing. If Fontana Adult School cancels the class, the student may apply the fee to another class or be given a full refund.SYLLABIThe syllabus is an essential component of any course. Generally given to students on the first day, it serves as a mutual agreement between student and teacher, setting forth the expectations for student comportment and behavior, material that will be covered, and how a student may achieve academic success. It helps to set a positive tone for the remainder of the course. Use and distribution of a syllabus is mandatory for all FAS teachers. Students are responsible for all information in a class syllabus. Students are required to follow all rules, regulations, procedures, and do all course work and exams as described in the syllabus. Questions about syllabus content should be directed to the teacher. ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAMSHIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA (HSD)The High School Diploma program allows you to complete the classes that you were unable to finish when you were in High School. You must be 18 years of age or older to enroll. You must have your official (sealed envelope) transcript containing all your high school information so we can provide a thorough evaluation and give you credit for all the classes you passed. Students must get enrolled first and complete at least 5 credits for residency to participate in graduation and must complete last class at Fontana Adult School if enrolled in multiple schools.Transfer of Credits by FUSD High School Non-Graduates: Students may transfer a maximum of 40 credits earned from Fontana Adult School back to a FUSD High School in order to receive a diploma from that high school, if the student does not graduate with his/her class. Proof of graduation will be given upon request at the time of verification of completion of all work required for graduation.Registration and placement testing will be held in the office to ensure proper program placement. Once the assessment is completed, the student will meet with the Guidance Technician to discuss the evaluation. Transcript evaluation of previous high school work by Guidance Technician determines credits. Students are encourage to take college classes that are UC/CSU transferrable in order to help meet graduation requirements while earning college credits and to take Chaffey classes when offered on the FAS campus.? Currently 3 units from Chaffey College equivalent to 10 credits at FAS.? We recommend meeting with Guidance Technician prior to signing up for college class to make sure it will meet our graduation requirements.? Help is available for students who would like to register for a course at Chaffey College.NOTE: The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) has been suspended and is no longer a requirement for receiving a high school diploma in California at this time.The Governing Board recognizes that education is a lifelong process and that it is important for individuals to continuously develop new skills.The Superintendent or designee shall develop and oversee the district's adult education program. The Board shall approve all courses to be offered in this program.(cf. 0410 - Nondiscrimination in District Programs and Activities)Graduation RequirementsHigh school graduation shall require a total of 180 units of credit of courses as prescribed by the Fontana Unified School District and the State Department of Education.Year 2003 and before: required courses - 130; elective courses - 50Year 2004 and after: required courses - 110; elective courses - 701. Credit will be given from the 9th grade and beyond in the area or required subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, as well as any elective subjects.2. Physical Education is not a requirement of Adult School.3. Five units of credit will be given for courses consisting of a minimum of 50 hours of instruction at Fontana Adult School.4. Transfer of Credits by Non-Graduates: Students may transfer a maximum of 40 credits earned from Fontana Adult School back to a FUSD High School in order to receive a diploma from that high school, if the student does not graduate with his/her class. Students must complete required assessments and activities.HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY (HSE)In the United States and its territories, adults who left high school before graduation have another way to secure a high school equivalency credential.HSE (High School Equivalency) standards are based on high school graduate skills in the areas of reading, writing, math, social studies, and science. Si el director es el que supuestamente acosa, entonces el estudiante debe presentar su queja al Asistente de Director, Bienestar y Asistencia lnfantil (CWA).Al recibir una queja de acoso sexual el administrador apropiado debera:Asesorar a la supuesta victima y dar los puntos principales de las opciones disponibles.Obtener una declaraci6n objetiva por escrito de la queja.Ayudar en la investigaci6n de seguimiento, entrevistando al acusado, testigos, y supervisor, segl.ln sea el caso, y recomendar la disposicion de la queja.Tomar toda accion apropiada para proteger al estudiante.Instruir a las partes involucradas de que el asunto es confidencial.f.Aconsejar al estudiante del derecho de presentar una queja formal.Deberan ser notificados los padres o tutores de cualquier alumno que presenta una queja o que supuestamente esta haciendo el acoso.·El supervisor inmediato u otro supervisor/administrador apropiado revisara la informacion objetiva reunida para determinar si la conducta supuesta constituye acoso sexual, dando consideracion al registro como un todo y a la totalidad de las circunstancias, incluyendo la naturaleza de las insinuaciones sexuales y el contexto en el cual ocurrieron los supuestos incidentes, y tomaran y/o autorizaran una accion apropiada. Esta politica no impide a un empleado acusado de acoso sexual de tener su derecho de representacion por un representante apropiado de la unidad de negociacion.Proceso Formal de ResolucionSi el proceso informal no resuelve la queja a la satisfaccion de la supuesta victima, o la victima no esta dispuesta o no puede iniciar el proceso informal, estan disponibles los siguientes procesos formales:La queja debera reducirse a escribirse y mandarse de manera oportuna a la Superintendente o persona designada.A los 60 dias de recibir la queja, la Superintendente concluira o hara que se concluya una investigacion y preparara una decision por escrito tal y como esta expuesto en la Politica de la Mesa Directiva 1312.4.Todos y cada uno de los derechos que existen, relacionados con la confidencialidad y/o privacidad en estos asuntos seran protegidos totalmente en toda la extension permitida/requerida por la ley.
