2019 Hall of Fame InducteesMarshall Dawson: Marshall, known to many as Reebok, worked at the Rec Center through a summer program in 1974/75. Learning from his older brother Roscoe the value of coaching, he began helping his brother in 1985. Over the years he has coached football, softball, and basketball winning championships along the way. Reebok also assisted with the Instructional Basketball program for the younger kids. He has a way of working with children that causes them to love and respect him. Reebok credits his family for supporting and encouraging him.Charlie King: Charlie remembers spending many hours either playing or watching ball at the Rec fields. He played baseball from t-ball through high school learning many lessons from being part of a team. Charlie worked at Darwin Wright Park for two years while in high school as Head Lifeguard. After graduation, he went to work with the City of Greenville as a firefighter. In 2011, Charlie was hired by Oconee County as Fire Chief, responsible for the fire and medical response services. He has continued to work as a volunteer firefighter and coordinator with the Anderson Hazardous Materials Response team. In June of 2019, Charlie was elected President of the SC Firefighters Association. He is a prime example of a Rec player going on to succeed at a high level as an adult.Earl Walker: Earl began coaching in 1978 and has been involved with numerous sports. He coached baseball, football, basketball, and softball both with youth and adult teams. Earl gave of his time and energy in helping the athletes under him. You can always count on him having a smile on his face no matter what is going on with him.Donnie Whelchel: Donnie coached for over 15 years in youth baseball and basketball, winning numerous championships. He won 9 state titles in baseball and represented SC in the Babe Ruth Southeast Regionals 7 times. In his 7 years of basketball, his teams won 4 league championships. Donnie also played and coached men’s teams in softball, basketball, and flag football. He was known as the coach who gave all of his players trading cards. One of his players said “Donnie went out of his way to establish a player-coach relationship with each of his players that led to their growth on and off the field.Sullivan King Mortuary: Sullivan King was a long-time sponsor of our youth baseball program.
