Covid – 19 Policy - Microsoft

Illness and Infection Control Policy and ProceduresEYFS requirement 3.44 states – ‘The provider must promote the good health of children attending the setting. They must have a procedure, discussed with parents and/or carers, for responding to children who are ill or infectious, take necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection, and take appropriate action if children are ill.’Dear Parents and CarersThroughout the Covid-19 lockdown we have been able to remain open for children of key worker parents, those seen as “critical” to the Covid-19 response and vulnerable families. We will continually update our policy as Government guidelines change. From 1st June, subject to review on 28th May, childcare settings and schools are projected to return in a phased manner from this date starting with year groups Reception, 1 and 6 (also nursery year in some cases.) We will be offering a phased in return with all of our pre-school children. Social distancing measures will still need to be in place for the foreseeable future at all settings and workplaces. However, young children cannot social distance in our setting but the procedures that we have put in place staggering adults arriving at the setting has supported the protection of children and staff so far. It is still Government advice that children should stay at home when they can, as it is safer to do so. This is your choice to make as a parent as to what you feel comfortable with as we will continue to care for children of key workers daily. We respect the choices that you make as we understand the necessity for many parents to graduate back into work themselves. We have amended our daily routines and put in place social distancing measures where possible, as well as implementing a policy, risk assessment and extra hygiene protocols in order to make our setting as safe as possible. It is necessary that you read and agree to adhere to the following procedures for everyone’s safety. Arrival Procedure. We now have a door step handover procedure in place for social distancing guidelines: Please ring the doorbell if we are not already waiting for you in the conservatory. This will be dis-infected after every use to protect you from cross contaminationStand back from the door so we can see you, giving us a safe 6ft distanceMaintain 2m from other parents, waiting in a socially distanced queue when necessaryWe will open the door and invite your child to come inside – please prepare your child for this changeYou will be asked ‘are you and any of your immediate family members feeling healthy? Do you currently show any symptoms of coronavirus?’ Please answer honestly to keep everyone safe. We will also ask for an approximate collection time so that children will be ready for youPlease explain to your child that they cannot bring toys from home at this time. However, you are welcome to provide a duplicate comforter to be washed and used hereYour child will be helped to remove their coat and shoes, which will be sprayed with anti-bacterial spray to prevent cross contamination; the open windows ensure air flows around this roomYour child will be asked to wash their hands – with support if necessary. All children will be supervised during hand washing and taught our routineYour child’s arrival time will be recorded on the daily registerDeparture ProcedurePlease ring the doorbell if we are not already waiting for you in the conservatory. It may be necessary to ‘ring as you arrive’ if we are in the garden or making a lot of noise in the playroomStand back from the door so we can see you, giving us a safe 6ft distanceMaintain 6ft distance from other parents, waiting in a socially distanced queue when necessaryYour child will be brought to the door and helped as necessary with shoes and coatIf your child has done any artwork which they want to bring home, or if there are is any paperwork to collect, it will be placed in their bag, please check this every dayWe will open the door and hand your child over to you - please ensure your child does not run off down the drive unsupervisedWe will have a very quick chat with you if time and circumstances allow – we are not ignoring you if we excuse ourselves and come back insideYour child’s departure time will be recorded on the daily registerClothingIn the setting all staff wear clean clothes dailyTo minimise risk, please ensure children are arriving in clean clothes, taken from the drawer and put on that day. Please do not dress your child in clothes from the previous day even if they “look” cleanCoats, shoes and bags will be kept in the conservatory If you are a high-risk worker in contact with people (for example if you are in the medical profession or mixing with many other adults) we request that you following your own employment policies regarding washing, showering and changing into clean clothes before collecting your child. If you are able to maintain strict social distancing measures while working, you do not need to change your clothes before collecting your child. This will support the safety of everyone. FoodWe will not be providing meals for the children during this pandemic. Please therefore send a packed lunch with your child from home with an extra snack if your child will still be in the setting at 4pm. (We will review this when contracts are re-organised at a date in the future)Illness and Infection Control Procedures We clean and sterilise play areas daily with added cleaning throughout the dayDaily cleaning of toys and other resourcesEnsuring children have use of resources which may be used in a safe way. For example. MedicationPlease do not bring your child if they have had any medication administered earlier in the day (with the exception of regular prescribed medications such as inhalers or antihistamines.) Calpol and Nurofen can and do mask a temperature, meaning that a child who just seemed “crabby” in the morning may in fact have Covid-19 and may be in the setting for four hours or more before a fever showsIf you think your child cannot manage the day without Calpol, they need to be at homeProcedure if a child falls illThe child will be treated using first aid and / or medication (with prior written permission) if appropriateThe child will be isolated if necessary Every effort will be made to telephone parents to collect the childIn an emergency situation, 999 / 111 will be contacted for further adviceEmergency contacts will be telephoned if parents are not available Note: it is important that parents provide at least 2 emergency contacts for each child. As a general rule, if a child is unable to participate in normal daily routine; is irritable; continuously crying or requires more attention than can be safely provided without impeding the health, safety and wellbeing of other children in the setting; or is not well enough to attend other provisions such as school or nursery, they should be at home with parents.Sickness and Isolation - If a child develops symptoms of coronavirus, they need to return home immediately and isolate for 7 days. The rest of their household will need to isolate for 14 days, meaning that logistically it would not be possible for the child to return to the setting for 14 days.If parents are ill – please consider whether it is safe to bring your child to the setting, to protect your child, other children and staff members. If you need to ask someone else to collect your child, you must supply a password and photo of them for us to use.If staff are ill – parents will be contacted as soon as reasonably practicable and asked to collect the child. Staff carry Emergency Contact Information for children on outings.Note: If staff illness is related to coronavirus, Public Health England advice will be followed.Confidentiality – Where possible, confidentiality will be maintained; however, please note that details of illnesses will be shared if advised by the Local Authority, Public Health England, Ofsted or other agencies. (Please see the Confidentiality Policy for more information)Reporting a notifiable disease - It is the duty of the attending doctor to determine whether a disease is notifiable and then to inform the Local Authority.
