Third Party Verifiers - BC Housing - Housing applicants



Third Party verifiers:

Applicants for housing are placed into one of five categories. For categories C, D and E no third party verification is required of the applicants housing circumstances.

For Housing Need Categories A and B, verification of the applicants living circumstances is required from a third party verifier. Provision of third party verification is optional.

Other verifiers will be considered based on ability to demonstrate knowledge of the applicant’s current living situation and housing needs.

Other situations in Housing Need Category A or B not covered under Homeless, Fleeing Abuse or health condition include:

▪ Homeless due to crisis - previous residence became uninhabitable due to a human caused or natural disaster.

o Verified by Fire Department, newspaper articles.

▪ Children can not live with applicant until stable housing is found

o Verified by MCFD worker, copies of court documents, etc.

▪ current accommodation is unsuitable for a child with special needs; or

▪ frequent moves are affecting minor children

o Verified by MCFD worker, or school counselor

▪ Have an extremely long commute that can not be sustained.

o Verified by letter confirming employment including location and hours of work or proof of enrollment in full time day attendance at school.

▪ Other circumstances or a combination of circumstances that relate to the safety/security of a tenant or member of their family.

o Verified by police or other appropriate agency clearly stating how continued residence in current accommodation or community is putting applicant or member of household at risk.

▪ Current tenants of social housing that require a smaller unit.

o Verified by BC Housing Property Portfolio Manager or other regional staff, or representative from housing provider managing housing development.
