Bottled Water Dispensers

Bottled water dispensers are being installed in our school for the start of the new school year due to national concerns about drinking water.  No substantiated concerns have been associated with BCPS drinking water and we expect that this is a short term situation while we complete an assessment.

Passport Program: Spanish

¡Hola! Me llamo Señorita Kaiser, y soy la maestra de español en Perry Hall Elementary. I’m so excited to continue the Passport Program with the 4th and 5th grades this school year! Starting the week of September 13th, students will begin working on the Middlebury online program to expand their vocabulary with interactive activities.

Did you know that starting on September 15th it is Hispanic Heritage Month? From September 15th to October 15th we recognize the contributions made and the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their heritage and culture. Hispanic Heritage Month begins each year on September 15th because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

I am looking forward to a fabulous year (un año fabuloso) Perry Hall Elementary School this year!

¡Hasta luego!

Señorita Kaiser

News in the Art Room

Mrs. Battista and Ms. Renner request that each student bring in an old t-shirt or button-down shirt to use as a smock when creating art with messy materials. Please be sure to use a permanent marker to write your child’s name on the shirt.

We will be again doing a Square 1 Fundraiser in order to raise money for a new kiln (clay oven). This fantastic company creates a variety of items featuring your child’s artwork. You could order anything from a phone case or mouse pad to a framed print of your child’s artwork. More information about the offerings will come home by mid-November and any items ordered during our fundraiser will be delivered before Winter break. These items will make great holiday gifts!

BCPS will continue to use the system known as BCPS One for this school year. During the first week of school, students came home with a unique activation code to access BCPS One. Once activated, you will be able to view grade reports, as well as, teacher websites.

Our school hours are 9:05 – 3:50 p.m. The bell schedule is as follows:

9:05 a.m. Students are welcomed into the building and may get breakfast from the cafeteria. Students should report to their homeroom.

9:20 a.m. Morning announcements begin. Students arriving after 9:20 will be marked late.

3:50 p.m. Dismissal begins with walkers and car riders.

Many PHES students ride buses to and from school, and parents are encouraged to support this. Parking is not available on-site for arrival, very little parking is available for pick up, and Joppa Road quickly becomes backed up during these times. At 3:50, bus riders will be dismissed to the front bus loop as the buses arrive. Staff and School Safeties will supervise dismissal. Car riders will exit the back of the building and daycare van riders will exit the side of the building. If you are picking up your child, please pull into the side lot and move through the car loop as directed by school staff. Please follow the flow of traffic and do not block Joppa Road while waiting. Parents are not permitted to wait inside of the building as a safety precaution.

School Hours

The safety of all students and staff in BCPS is of the utmost importance to all of us. Our school uses the Raptor system for checking in all visitors. When you visit our school for the first time, you will be asked to present a government-issued photo ID or a driver’s license to a staff member in the office. The ID will be scanned and the following information will be collected: your photo, your name, and your date of birth. This information will be utilized to check you in, create an ID badge, and compare your information against sexual offender databases throughout the country. If your name appears on any of these lists, or you refuse to allow the school to scan your ID, you will not be allowed access to the school. During future visits you will be asked to show your ID, and you will be selected from an existing list of previous visitors. At the conclusion of each visit, you will be asked to check out of the office in order to record that you have left the building. You will be required to present your identification, even if you are just picking up your child. The information collected will not be shared outside of the school and is kept on a secured server. We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our staff and our students safe!

Each year, more than 20,000 parents and family and community members volunteer their knowledge, skills, and time to BCPS. They contribute to students’ academic progress in a number of ways like assisting in cafeterias and libraries, accompanying students on field trips, and organizing special events and projects.

In order to ensure the safety of BCPS students, parents and others interested in volunteering in BCPS schools must complete a Volunteer application and watch an online orientation video. This orientation covers topics such as volunteer expectations and guidelines, school safety and security, and important information regarding BCPS policies and procedures.

The new online orientation makes the sessions available year-round and at the volunteer’s convenience. The orientation can be found at ( Parents(Volunteer with BCPS.

At the end of the online orientation, a certificate must be printed to document completion. Please submit your certificate and volunteer application to the school office.

Free and Reduced Priced Breakfast and Lunch

Gator News

As parents, we know that the cost for back to school items seems to rise each year. We all look for opportunities to save money and lower our household costs. Many children throughout our county our eligible to receive breakfast and lunch for free, or at greatly reduced prices. In order to determine if your family can take advantage of this savings, it is crucial to complete the eligibility form each year. Only one form needs to be completed for the entire family.

This form was sent home on the first day of school. In order to determine eligibility, we encourage all parents to return this form. Please return the form as soon as possible. Be sure to include ALL of the information that is requested. If you do not include all of the required information, it will delay approval by the Office of Food and Nutrition Services. Please know that this information is treated with extreme confidentiality. At no time are children informed or made aware of who receives discounted or free meals. Only the cafeteria manager knows which children benefit from this terrific program. While you are awaiting approval, you will need to provide a lunch or send lunch money for your child.

Opt-Out Preferences

At Perry Hall Elementary, the students regularly use technology to learn, create, and share their work. There are many parts of the school day that are routine for our students, including taking pictures for the yearbook, publishing their work on our school and other websites, and creating and sharing video and other multi-media productions.

Please only complete the attached Opt-Out form only if you do not want your child to have these experiences. If you opt-out of PHES directory information, your child will not be in the school yearbook and by opting out of Intellectual Property and/or Student Photographs they will not be in the yearbook and they will be limited in how their work can be published and shared all year.

Thank you for taking the time to consider the impact on your child’s instructional program at our school should you choose to sign and return the Opt-Out form. If you have any questions about the form, please contact an administrator.
