SUBSTITUTE APPLICATION PROCEDURES

ALL individuals interested in being employed as a substitute in any Baltimore County Public School must submit the substitute application, provide proof of education, and complete e-Verify, fingerprints and a background check if not a current BCPS employee. The cost for the fingerprint and background check is $70.50; paid by the applicant. This cost is not reimbursed.

STEP 1: COMPLETE APPLICATION

Access the Baltimore County Public School Web site at and complete an on-line application. Once your application has been successfully submitted you will receive a confirmation page which contains your application's confirmation number.

Print the confirmation page.

STEP 2: REGISTER AND PREPARE FOR SCREENING INTERVIEW *

Access the Online Registration System Web site at

Create your account by clicking on Create New Account under New Non-Employee Account.

After submitting your account information, go back to the log in screen, enter your new username and click Log In. If you have forgotten your password, enter your e-mail address and click Forgot Password.

Click on "Change Catalog" from the left menu panel and select the "Meetings-Registration" catalog from the down field and click "Change Catalog."

Click on `Catalog' from the left menu panel to browse and register for available Substitute Teacher Screening Interviews.

Click on the BLUE text for a list of available interview sessions.

Click `Register.'

Review the event you are registered for and when you are finished, click Logout.

Bring proof of education with you to the screening interview.

Proof of 48 college credits completed from an accredited college/university or proof of successful completion of the MSDE ParaPro Assessment and a high school diploma,

Proof of a four year degree from an accredited college/university, or a copy of your MSDE teaching certificate to be paid at the degreed rate. **

**Note: A copy of your unofficial/official transcripts that indicate the number of credits earned or the degree which has been awarded, a copy of your degree, an original letter from the Registrar's office stating the date the degree was conferred or a copy of a MSDE teaching certificate is acceptable proof.

Following successful completion of the screening interview, selected candidates will be notified by office staff, via email, and supplied with instructions to sign-up for the required orientation. Fingerprinting information will be given out at the orientation sessions.

STEP 3: ATTEND ORIENTATION

Receive email invitation to attend the next scheduled New Substitute Teacher Orientation from Temporary Services.

STEP 4: COMPLETE e-VERIFY and SCHEDULE FINGERPRINT APPOINTMENT

Receive email to complete the e-Verify process. ***THIS MUST BE COMPLETE TO SCHEDULE A FINGERPRINTING APPOINTMENT

Receive authorization code from Office of Temporary Services to be fingerprinted during orientation. Schedule a fingerprint and background check by calling (877) 467-9215 Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or access the website at . Applicants are seen by appointment only. For hours of operation, directions, or questions call (443) 809-8941 or log onto .

Note: Those who possess a valid BCPS employment fingerprint card do not need to be re-fingerprinted. Contact the OIRM at 443-809-8941 to determine if a fingerprint which occurred within 180 days can be transferred to BCPS or to update an intern or coach fingerprint card into an employment eligible card.

STEP 5: SUBMIT PROOF OF COMPLETED FINGERPRINT AND BACKGROUND CHECK

Notify the Office of Temporary Services when your fingerprint card provided by the Office of Fingerprinting and Records Management has been received. Notification can be made by:

Emailing oftempservices@ your first and last name and date indicated on the

fingerprint card. Enter "Substitute Teacher Employment ? Fingerprint Completed" in the subject

line or

Submitting a copy (not the original) of your

fingerprint card

provided by the Office of Fingerprinting and Records

Management by

Retain the original copy of your fingerprint card for access and identification when arriving for assignments.

STEP 6: RECEIVE INFORMATION PACKET AND REGISTER WITH SMARTFINDEXPRESS (SFE)

Recieve welcome letter approximately following submission of all required documents for applicants that meet the substitute teacher qualifications.

Review the welcome letter and the packet of information on how to register with and utilize the automated calling system, SmartFindExpress (SFE) that has been provided by the Office of Temporary Services.

Call (410) 427-3031 to register with the automated calling system. Only substitute teachers registered in SFE are eligible for substitute teacher assignments.
