Parkville High School

Good evening Parkville families,I hope this message finds you and your loved ones well.? As we approach the start of the 20-21 school year in a virtual setting, it is increasingly important to be able to communicate with our families.? All communication will be sent over a call and as an email, followed by a post on Schoology, and to the website. The information is often lengthy at the start of the year and we often need to attach documents.? If you do not have and/or need to update our records with a working email address, please call the main office at 443-809-5257.The purpose of this message is to provide an update on student’s schedules and learning expectations.? Our school’s Leadership Team had an opportunity to collaborate regarding our virtual bell schedule for the fall based on guidance from BCPS.? We carefully considered student social emotional and academic needs, stakeholder input and the impact of COVID-19 on our school community and therefore will implement a semesterized meeting schedule for our students. This means students will take part in only 4 of their 8 courses from September through January.? They would then have the other 4 courses during the spring semester.? A copy of our virtual bell schedule is attached to this message and will be posted on our school website and in Schoology. Individual student schedules will be available in BCPS One on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.School will begin for students on September 8, 2020. You will notice on the attached schedule that teachers will be on duty Monday through Friday with Wednesday held as a day for targeted student intervention, asynchronous (anytime) instruction, individual and collaborative planning, and professional learning. However, in order to maximize instructional time during virtual instruction, any calendar week with fewer than five (5) school days will hold scheduled classes on the Wednesday as well. Two important changes from the spring is that teachers will take student attendance daily and will adhere to traditional grading and reporting procedures as outlined in the BCPS Grading and Reporting Procedures Manual. In the coming days you will receive more information on the following topics to name a few:Device pick-up for new studentsTechnology maintenance for returning studentsVirtual OrientationPick-up of materials and supports being provided by the schoolOur ultimate goal is to work together to support our students, families and staff during these challenging times. Please continue to provide ongoing feedback to teachers, counselors and school administrators about your child’s experience and needs throughout the first semester. For more information, please view the entire BCPS Reopening Plan which can be found on the BCPS website.Sincerely, Principal Maureen Astarita ................
