Non-Professional Development Schools (Non-PDS) Checklist for Placement of Teacher Interns* The Department of Organizational Development (DOD) manages the placement of interns* who are placed with teachers of record in semester one and semester two of the professional year in order to facilitate intern access to the learning management system in BCPS One. _____ Step 1: The Department of Organizational Development finalizes non-PDS teacher internship placements with schools using the established process. DOD contacts the intern to provide directions for obtaining a BCPS email account in order to access BCPS One. DOD directs the intern to email internships@ as soon as they receive their BCPS user name. _____ Step 2: Interns arrive at the schoolhouse. At building sign in, the principal/designee checks for valid BCPS fingerprint cards and provides general schoolhouse information and expectations. _____ Step 3: Interns who do not already have BCPS user names complete the email request form (ERF- ) for the principal’s signature. The principal/designee applies an “Intern” sticker to each signed ERF and sends the completed ERF’s to the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) for processing._____ Step 4: DoIT creates email accounts with an expiration date of one year from date of creation. DoIT uses SharePoint to provide the principal with each intern’s user name and temporary password._____ Step 5: Principals provide the interns with their user names and temporary passwords. _____ Step 6: The intern emails internships@ with their user name._____ Step 7: After receiving the user name, DOD provides access for each intern assigned to a mentor teacher of record to the appropriate school in BCPS One. DOD notifies the mentor teacher and intern via BCPS email when BCPS One access has been granted._____ Step 8: The mentor teacher of record determines the level of access to grant to the intern and provides training to the intern on how to use BCPS One. _____ Step 9: During the semester, the principal immediately notifies internships@ of any changes to the placements so that BCPS One access can be adjusted appropriately.IMPORTANT NOTE: Interns will be added to schools as a "non-teachers of record." Mentor teachers may use Section Override Roles to give an intern section-specific permissions appropriate to their role in the course. This includes such common permissions as:Edit Grades/Edit Materials: Provides a co-teacher or intern with full administrator rights to the course.View Grades/Edit Materials: Provides a co-teacher with the ability to add course content but view-only access to the gradebook.View Grades/View Materials: Provides a co-teacher or intern with view-only access to the course materials and grades. No Grades/View Materials: Provides a co-teacher or intern with view-only access to the course materials and no ability to view grades. For more information on using section override roles, please see the subheading Assigning Roles Within a Course on Schoology's support resource: Assigning Section Override Roles.*Internship- an unpaid, supervised, and practical capstone experience in an appropriate clinical setting for a student in a preparation program. Internships shall not be completed concurrent with BCPS employment. Teacher internships are comprised of two semesters: semester one (part-time) and semester two (full-time). Semester two interns are required to have valid BCPS fingerprint cards prior to beginning the semester two internship. ................
