Project Geometric Constructions/ Design

Why this project now? Some people believe that basic geometric shapes are at the center of the entire universe...You will get a glimpse into what some people see, think, believe. You will get a chance to construct some beautiful geometric constructions with compass, pencil, straightedge and paper. Who knows, maybe some of you will continue to study this on your own or take the challenge and look for connections to the geometry of the universe...

First you will watch some videos to get inspired. I want you to watch the video and then respond to these prompts: I like ______________________ I wonder _____________________

1] I read a passage to you from a book, Struck by Genius by Jason Padgett. Watch this you tube video titled: Brutal Attack results in Savant Syndrome, Jason Padgett, Beautiful Mind, Fractals [3 min]

2] This is a more visual video ? very cool- with an invitation at the end for you... Title: Savant Syndrome, Man sees numbers as Fractals, Beautiful mind. Nova , Jason Padgett Synesthesia [ 5min]

3] This is an interesting piece ? listen to the first 5 minutes or so and later on while you are doing your constructions you can listen to more in the background if you choose. I have not yet heard the whole thing. Title: Michael Schneider - Constructing The Universe [5 min]

4] Watch this very complex construction tutorial ? it is about 10 minutes and you really get a feel for these challenging constructions. Title: How 2 Draw - Arq Mandala Pattern - P1 (SetUp) - Sacred Geometry Video Tutorial [10 min]

***5] Now taking it down to the entry level.... Watch the video: Taking note of all sorts of different geometric designs that can be made by starting with a construction of a regular hexagon. [4 min]

Now it is time to start on the physical part of the project... I will assign everyone one construction by number -see attached constructions- you can trade with anyone- but there will be only one person per design.
