INTRODUCTION

In order to ease the understanding of an important component of the Pilot Action – i.e. the ecotourism package design – below two basic, and completely invented, examples (one for terrestrial Protected Area and one for costal/marine Protected Area) of an ecotourism package have been drafted.

They have been conceived thinking on a simple and generic (but without any reference to an actual Park) territorial system, but each Pilot Action should exploit the “special features” each Protected Area has.

The activities are (roughly) described in order to make understanding that the DestiMED package should not be just a “visit” of beautiful places, but a way to “get in touch” with the local life, to “meet” local inhabitants, to “experience” (despite the short time) how is to live there.

Some activities aim at raising the awareness of the eco-tourist of the added value of having the Protected Area.

Activities are described with a tentative time length in a minimum package of 3 days (and 2 overnights), as foreseen by the pilot Actions selection criteria, but of course it would be likely to foresee a longer duration.

Finally there is a list of services (and related suppliers) linked with the foreseen activities, in order to make clear that one organization (usually the Park management body) should sign an agreement with all the suppliers, in order to have the management of the full package.

Please note that when thinking of needed services, since average cost of any package should be between 200-250 € per day, the total cost of services should not overpass 200 € per day, because other costs are missing, namely:

• fee for the package management,

• fee for the package commercialization,

• contribution to an initiative of local sustainable development,

• contribution to CO2 cut-off mechanism
