INTRODUCTION

Beloved, after reading and following God’s account of the creation of earth and the universe from day one until a portion of day six, we pick up with the sixth day’s conclusion. God said, “Let us make man,” and now we shall examine the crown jewel of God’s creation. The first human beings created were called Adam and Eve. From these beginnings are the complex creatures that God would design individually and uniquely, throughout the ages of time.

Butler declares in his Analytical Bible Expositor: “Evolution does not leave out creation or man. What they leave out is God. Giving evolution respect dishonors God. There are five things said about man in the evolution report, and all five involve God one way or another.

First…man’s design. ‘God created man in his own image.’

Second…man’s designation… ‘Male and female created He them.’

Third…man’s duty, ‘Be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth.’

Fourth…man’s dominion, ‘subdue the earth and have dominion over the fishof the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.’

Fifth…man’s diet. ‘I have given you every herb bearing seed…every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree…to you it shall be for meat.’”

And of course, after the flood of Noah’s time meat or flesh was added to the diet (Gen. 9:3), but never to be eaten with the blood in it! vs. 4. Let us as Christians remember Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” and John 17:20-23, “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”

OUTLINE

“God Created the Human Race…A Forethought and not an Afterthought”

I. A Divine Declaration. Genesis 1:26

Beloved, because God is a Spirit (John 4:24), this declaration of being in His image carries a greater meaning than a mundane mirror-like image. I believe, like many devout theologians, that the declaration has to do with us being a triune creation as the Godhead (Father – Son – Holy Spirit, Matt. 3:16-17), and us being body – soul – spirit, as we find in I Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” We are not an afterthought but a forethought of God!

II. A Divine Design. Genesis 1:27

This verse affirms the fact that every human being is made in the design of our Creator. I describe this aspect in three words: intellect, emotion, and volition. We are designed even as the Creator with the ability to have intellect (the ability to think); motion (the ability to feel); and volition (the ability to exercise free will.) Because of and based on this design, we will be judged one day by our Creator. II Corinthians 5:10 is my evidence, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”

III. A Divinely Ordained Dominion. Genesis 1:28

This dominion first commands fruitfulness (productivity)! (Read John 15:2, 5, 8, 16 and Colossians 1:10.) Many centuries after the writings of Moses, the Psalmist in 8:6-8 clearly defines the commentary on the authority or dominion of the human race, “Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.”

IV. A Divinely Appointed Diet. Genesis 1:29-30

The Creator sets forth a diet that is for both man and animal before the fall and the flood, which would occur many years later. This diet applies to all creatures eating from the soil. After the fall of man in Genesis 3:16-19, the ground became increasingly stubborn and the wildlife increasingly unsettled. The Lord brought judgment on all creation under Noah (read Genesis 6 – 9) and eventually changed the diet of man and beast.

V. A Delightful Declaration. Genesis 1:31

At the close of the sixth creation day which ended all creation, God’s declaration was delightful! “And God saw everything that he made, and, behold, it was very good!” God’s view of man and creation was most satisfying! It truly pleased the Lord and brought words of His delight!

CLOSING

“God’s way of doing things is always good! It is man’s ways that cause things to be bad. The report of the perfecting of creation is also good, but evolution is not good; it is bad, stupid, wicked, and against God. It does not receive the approval of God!” Butler
