Monday, Sept. 15, Emotional Housekeeping – Emotional housekeeping: a different metaphor for the old term, “baggage.” Many of us carry a lot of old resentments and hurts that all but haunt us. These old wounds seem more like smelly laundry that we carry in a basket, wondering why the fragrance never gets any better. The emotional housekeeping metaphor could be played out in a number of ways – laundry, spring cleaning, window washing – but it is all essentially an exercise in forgiveness, reframing and making peace with our past. Join Rev. Karrie Oertli, MA, M.Div., director, Pastoral Care, INTEGRIS Baptist, and Susan Stephenson, MA, chaplain, INTEGRIS Mental Health, for this noon luncheon at the First Baptist Church of Moore, 301 N.E. 27 St., Moore. Luncheon fee: $12. Advance payment is required.

Monday, Sept. 15, Meditation for Stress – Over worked? Over tired? Lacking peace and joy? Meditation is good for body and soul. It examines how conditions in the womb shape physiology in a way that makes people more vulnerable decades later to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, immune problems and other illnesses. Too few calories, too little protein, and too few other nutrients at early stages of development can all lead to diabetes, hypertension and other illnesses. The luncheon, to be presented in English, will be held at 11:30 a.m. The luncheon fee is $10, and advance payment is required. The 6:30 p.m. dinner will be presented in Spanish. Both will be held at Cocina de Mino Restaurant, 6032 S. Western Ave., on the corner of S.W. 59 and Western. Reservations are required for both events and space is limited.

Tuesday, Sept. 16, New Horizons on Preventing Dementia – At some point in our lives, many of us will be touched by the effects of dementia. Whether we are caring for a loved one who is experiencing dementia, or have lost someone who suffered the outcomes of long-term dementia, it is important to be informed about the latest advances and tools to prevent this devastating diagnosis. Neurologist Charles Morgan, M.D., will give us some ideas and tips on ways to help delay the effects of dementia not only for our family members, but also for ourselves. The presentation will be held at noon at the First Baptist Church of Moore, 301 N.E. 27 St., Moore. Luncheon fee: $12. Advance payment is required.

Wednesday, Sept. 17, Warming Up to Exercise – We have heard time and again about the effects of obesity on our society and how important it is to maintain good health by eating a proper diet and using an effective exercise program. But how do we exercise properly without incurring injuries? Advanced therapies and new technologies provide medical, surgical and mechanical support options. Given the scarcity of organ availability, these therapies help patients who might otherwise not receive the help that they need. Join Nicolas Jabbour, M.D., NZTI medical director, as he discusses the importance of organ disease management, and how a full understanding of organ systems allows our patients the greatest care possible. The presentation will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Shartel Church of God, 11600 S. Western.

Thursday, Sept. 18, The Healing Power of the Mind, Body Connection – At age 13, Matthew Sanford’s world turned upside-down when a devastating car accident killed his father and sister and left him paralyzed from the chest down. Now 42 and still paralyzed, Sanford is a nationally recognized yoga teacher, critically acclaimed author and a leading voice in the integrative health movement who has inspired and enhanced the lives of thousands. His pioneering work with yoga, paralysis and disability is transforming the approach to rehabilitation. His inspirational message, however, applies to all, able and disabled. Class will be held at 10:30 a.m. Cost: $10; includes a two-day pass to PACER.

Saturday, Sept. 20, Jane Seymour “Balance and Tolerance: A Key to Life” – Award-winning actress Jane Seymour has showcased her talents on the Broadway stage, in motion pictures and on television, blazing the trail for family friendly programming, with her Golden Globe-winning role as “Dr. Michaela Quinn” on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. Seymour’s film credits include the iconic James Bond film Live and Let Die and the cult classic Somewhere in Time. She recently co-starred in the hit comedy film Wedding Crashers. Seymour sees physical, social, mental and spiritual wellness as being intertwined. She believes that balance – between self and others, science and intuition, body and spirit – will help us all triumph in the face of adversity. A charming, articulate, warm woman, Seymour will share her message of balance, caring and the larger notion of wellness as the means to helping others and helping ourselves. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center Music Hall, 201 N. Walker Ave.
