Elijah Fed By Ravens (1 Kings 17)

Main Point: God provides for those who trust in Him.

Key Verse: The jar of flour wasn’t used up. The jug always had oil in it. That’s what the Lord had said would happen. He had spoken that message through Elijah. - I Kings 17:16

Materials: “The Lord Said It” gameboard (Leader, before you play the game with your group, you will need to cut out the game pieces from the bottom of the board so that each child in your group has one.) Dice

Personal Connection:

• Say: This story about how God provided a constant supply of food to Elijah in the middle of the drought is so amazing! God supplies all of our needs, and when He provides during difficult times, we can clearly see that it is God who is the Source of everything we need! Elijah could not provide for himself; he had to trust God. Leader, share about a time when you trusted God to provide for you or your family during a difficult time.

• Say: Let’s read 1 Kings 17:16 together. Read the verse together. When the Lord says He is going to do something, He always keeps His promises. We can trust God every single time! We show God our trust when we obey Him. Every time we obey Him, He freely pours out His blessings on us and provides for our needs!

Hands on Application:

• Lay out the game board and have each student write their name on their game piece.

• Say: We are going to play a game called “The Lord Said It.” Just like Elijah had to make a choice to obey God when he heard God tell him to do something, we have to make choices everyday to obey what God is telling us to do. This game will help us practice making those decisions. Play the game together.

Group Discussion:

• Say: You may be thinking to yourself, “But Elijah was a special prophet of God. God chose him to amazing miracles and I could never do those cool things.” Let’s take a look at James 5:17-18. Read the verses together.

• Ask: Did those verses tell us that Elijah had special powers? Did it say that only a few people in history would be able to do amazing things for God? NO! Elijah was a normal person just like us, but he did trust a powerful, amazing God! We can trust God, too, and get to know Him when we read His Word!

Conversation with God (Prayer):

Pray that your children will learn to actively trust God! Fill in the prayer journal and close in prayer.
