Note To Students & Families:

I know this is a major transition for everyone, but we will get through it together! No worries!  As the weeks approach we will engage in various activities, and discussion just as we would in our classroom. It might look a little different but we will take it one day at a time and adjust as we need to as we always do. It is important that you read below carefully with your parents or guardian to ensure we are all on the same page (things might change as we get updates). I look forward to online learning and face to face in due time with all of you!

COURSE: PRINCIPLES OF FAMILY AND HUMAN SERVICES

Students learn life literacy skills; individual, family, and community systems; and core functions of human services field. Emphasis is placed on human development, professional skills, diversity, analyzing community issues, life management, and human ecology. Activities engage students in exploring various helping professions, while building essential life skills they can apply in their own lives to achieve optimal wellbeing. English/language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, technology, interpersonal relationships are reinforced. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include service learning and job shadowing.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: A three-ring notebook and one set of dividers

(Set of 5)

Notebook Paper/ Pens Black or Blue Ink/ Pencils/Block Erasers/glue sticks

Colored Pencils/Markers

Hand Sanitizer (Face to Face instruction only)

*Mask (5 will be provided to you that will need to be worn daily) Due to moisture becoming trapped in a mask due to conversations, 2 per day are highly recommended. (only during face to face instruction)

Additional Resources you will need for the upcoming weeks:

Submit assignments through email: which is located at the end of the syllabus. I will conduct recorded lectures and well as some live lectures for your participation and feedback.

• *Try your very best! If you get frustrated or feel too challenged. Breathe, relax and we will handle it together! 

• *Submit your work on time! This is a great opportunity to become more independent. You are responsible for submitting on time.

• *If you need extra help, email or text me. I’m here to support you through the work. Or wait until we can meet live in our online meetings to ask your questions

Beginning/during class:

When the bell rings and during the class period, sit in your assigned seat unless participating in a special group project and start your bell ringer.

Be prepared for class with all necessary tools; academic supplies to include a pencil, notebook with paper inside.

During class discussions, ONLY one person speaks at a time and PLEASE raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged.

VERY IMPORTANT! Everyone has a voice and opinion conversations in this class are to stay clean and respectful not intending to hurt anyone’s feelings or become disrespectful. Discussions in this class stay in this class!

Food items are not allowed in the class unless arranged by the teacher. Water bottles are permitted but absolutely NO can drinks or cups.

Do not leave the classroom without teacher permission or you will be written up.

Hats, sunglasses and all electronic media are not allowed at any time. Violation will result in the items (s) being confiscated and conduct reported.

CELL PHONES will be placed in the organizer on the wall. Everyday everyone will place their phones in the organizer …NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

End of class:

Straighten up and clean your work area after each class. (This means DO NOT MARK ON THE TABLE).

All classwork must be turned in at the end of each class or the following day if approved by teacher.

The bell does not dismiss you, the teacher does or substitute

Attendance Policy- If student is absent from class you will have approximately (2) days to turn in missing work. I WILL NOT STOP CLASS in order to give you missing assignments. I WILL NOT give missing assignments (2) minutes before the bell ringers to start class. THE ONLY TIME you will receive missed work will be after class.

Discipline Policy-In Career and Technical Education, we strive to empower the students to make good decisions. When an issue arise that needs discipline we seek to discuss and work with the student first. If the issue continues with no improvement we will contact the parent to work out a solution. If the student tails to improve their issue will be directed to administration.

If I recognize a problem with the ability or behavior of the above mentioned student, I will contact a parent to discuss the issue. I will also be available via contact information, I provided to the parents in case of questions, comments or concerns.

Missing work-Each day work is late 5 points will be deducted…Late work will NOT be accepted past 7 days (this includes weekends).

*There will be a Pre-Assessment administered during the first week of the new semester*. A midterm will also be administered which will count as (2) test grades. The date and objectives covered will be discussed at a later date.

BATHROOM POLICY-Students will not misuse this privilege. Students will be allowed to use the restroom during breaks (since two breaks are allowed during the day). DO NOT ASK to use the restroom during lecture or group discussions. Once the tardy bell rings, you are TARDY!

Food Policy

Students with your help, we will maintain a clean and neat instructional environment. Students you may bring water or a soda bottle in class no open cups allowed. Snacks, candy and other food will be consumed before entering into class. The only exception is during food preparation and at that time food will be consumed in the room. After a food lab, I expect students to clean up behind themselves and maintain a clean environment.

Extracurricular Opportunity

All students enrolled in FCS classes are eligible to join the FCCLA Club (Family Career and Community Leaders of America). The FCCLA is a national organization that focuses on family, leadership and community service. We participate in and recognize student achievement in community service. We participate in and recognize students achievements in community service projects and competitive events held at the regional, state, and national levels.
