Fresno State Women’s Equestrian Team

Are you interested in continuing your riding career during your years spent in college? If so, we have been looking for you. At Fresno State University you will have an opportunity to continue to pursue your dream of riding while getting a college education at the same time. This is a once in a lifetime experience. This sort of opportunity isn’t offered at every school. How many cases of you heard about your fellow riding competitors having to give up their riding until they got their college degree? It doesn’t have to be like that for you. Being a serious competitor in the horse world you can’t afford to take one month off, let alone about four years. Your style and technique will slowly weaken and who knows you may never even get the chance to start up your riding career again after college. Joining the Fresno State Equestrian will keep your skills at their peak level and will give you many opportunities to compete against other riders from schools across the country.

Worried about not having a horse or having to sell yours due to costly tuition? No worries. Part of the benefits of being on the Equestrian team is that you don’t need anything. Fresno State provides the horses, the tack, and most of the rest of equipment you need to ride a horse properly. All you need to bring is a positive attitude and a good work ethic. Which isn’t hard when you are getting the chance to do something that you love. But if you do have a horse and wish to have him at school with you, you also have that opportunity. Fresno State, along with its school horses, has many other horses boarding at the student horse center that belong to paying boarders. You can reserve the stall that you want and would only have to pay between $180.00 to $240.00 a month. All payments include feeding hay to your horse in the a.m. and p.m. The higher cost also includes stall cleaning every week. This is very reasonable compared to most horse facilities.

We accept many riders from many different levels of riding. We have beginners, intermediates, novice, advanced, and open riders. All levels are also used in IHSA competitions. IHSA is the intercollegiate association used by many other schools in our country. Riders from all levels are given the chance to compete against the riders of the other schools in their same division. So all riders have a fair chance. You can work yourself up to each level as you progress your riding through your years at Fresno. State. We also have both disciplines, Western and English. Western consists of horsemanship and reining. English consists of equitation and jumping. The season starts around October 1st and continues until the end of April. As you can see being apart of the Equestrian team is a year round commitment. Yes, you will be given breaks, like Christmas and Spring break. But you will be expected, in order to get the chance to compete, to follow through with all your responsibilities and be a dedicated student-athlete.

Being a student-athlete is a privilege and all rules apply to all Fresno State athletes. The Fresno State Equestrian Team has also been recently declared an NCAA sport as of a few years ago. Being a NCAA competitor also means some more rules to follow. All rules and regulations are let known to all athletes and any questions regarding the rules and regulations are encouraged to ask. Having to follow all of these rules also has its perks, being a student-athlete has many benefits, like getting into school sport activities for free and so on.

Our Fresno State Equestrian team is a great opportunity for all young women who have a love for horses. Being apart of the team is a growing experience and you will meet many other women who want the same dream that you do. The team is about unity, teamwork, future opportunities, and having a good time. You will make new and lasting friendships on the team, along with gaining leadership skills, which in turn will carry you through your adult years.
