Let’s Talk:

Next Club Meeting

3rd Saturday of the month – Breakfast at The Hometown Buffet on Manchester just east of 141, 8 am.

Editor Talkin’

Greetings to one and all. I trust that the summer has been good to you and your truck.

Some of the guys went on the tour of St Charles and you will find their write up later in this issue.

Our next trip is to Rick McKee’s house and then to the Daniel Boone home across the street. The details are later in this issue as well.

We received a personal invitation to the Midwest All Truck Nationals. I have the flyer and registration form if you are interested. Some day I would like to attend this, but that can’t be this year…

For the October Rally, we are getting dash plaques, some plaques for some awards, as well as some trophies to give away. Keep looking into attendance prizes or goodie bag items that we could use. We have secured the services of a DJ for some music and other entertainment. So, it looks like this might be our best event yet. You don’t want to miss it. Put it on your calendar and plan to join us.

Another thing that we have done is to put together a Phone Chain to let members know about things that are going on or changing. Each member will be receiving the list via mail. Everything will start with John Strom. He will call 5 of us with the information and we in turn will call the people under our name. We hope this will promote better communication within the club. I will be mailing this out to all the members.

Don’t forget our September breakfast at Hometown Buffet on the 16th. Look forward to seeing many of you at the breakfast and then at Rick’s house.

Respectfully submitted,

Mike Kelley

Tour Thru New Town – St. Charles

Phil Ierardi

After many last minute cancellations, only three members showed up for the 8/12 tour to New Town in St. Charles. Those present were Phil Ierardi in his ’55 Cameo, Dan Diemert with his ’67 Chevy and Richard Belovich driving his ’79 “Black Beauty”. After meeting at Chuck-a-Burger, we drove to New Town which is a high density, mixed-use walkable development. New Tow has become the topseller in a survey of 17,000 developments in 16 states. To date, over 700 homes have been sold and there are currently 40 service/retail businesses lined-up.

When we entered the community, we were welcomed by a huge Oblelisk sitting in the middle of a rotary behind which were canal with home designs of yesterday on each side. We ate lunch in the town square at a restored railroad station which now is a resturant and bookstore. We then toured through the town and had a great blimpse into the future of this wonderful community which is scheduled for completion around 2014. Afterwards, we drove to Fast Lane where we witnessed the largest collection of historical/muscle cars in the area, which are all for sale.

The weather, food and sites were great. It was a great event and we had a great time!! Sorry the rest fo you missed it!! Hopefully on the next tour, we can have more participation.

Respectifully,

Phil Ierardi

Club Truck Talkin’

My dad owned a 1934 Chev Car. He sold it in 1941 because of hard to get gas, tires, and oil. He walked to work 1 ½ miles to Little Dog Coal Mind in Gillespie IL and h ome again in the evening. He purchased a new 1950 GMC for $1850.00, no right tail light, no right sunvisor and small heater. [pic]The truck was used for hand picking coal at Little Dog to heat his hous and cook food for his wife and 2 sons. My wife and I purchased the ’50 GMC in 1977. Slma Lyone Bellovich drove the GMC 26 miles a day to and from work. A man walked into IGA about 6:30 am 2 to 4 degree below 0 handed my wife $800.00 for that GMC. He said he has a new 1978 truck did not know make and it will not start. She said no.

I had to purchase a new 1979 Chev Truck for her. To get the 1950 away from her or there would have been a 3 war. She did not want to part with that old truck. Started to restore in 1979. Finished Nov 25, 1988 Friday and back on the road again.
