Dear Parents of Third Graders:
Dear Families of 3rd through 6th Graders: December 9, 2015
Children's Ministry has traditionally offered a Bible Explorers class that teaches children how to use their Bible. But, when thinking about the class, we realize that many parents don't feel any more comfortable with the Bible than their kids do. Our mission is to "Partner with Parents as We Follow Jesus" which means equipping families to have faith conversations and to be in the Word together. So, this invitation is for you and your child…even those of you who have participated in a previous class!
It’s for all those who want to
• learn a little history and structure of the Bible,
• feel more comfortable navigating through this book of books,
• refresh Bible understanding and skills and most importantly,
• find ways to be in conversation with the Word as a family.
We’ve set aside 5 Sundays before worship from 8:30-9:45 for children and at least one parent to meet regularly. The meetings will be 2-3 weeks apart to allow for time at home practicing what you’ve learned. The first 30 minutes or so of class will be used for presenting the week's topic. The next 30 minutes, parents and their children will work together to engage in activities around that topic. Then, we'll regroup, wrap up and go up to worship the God of this amazing Book! Here are the dates:
January 10 - Bible Basics and Treasure Hunt
January 24 - Old Testament - God's Mighty Acts
February 7 - Old Testament - Judges, Kings and Prophets
February 28 - The Gospels - Life and Teachings of Jesus
March 13 - Acts and Letters - Tell the Good News (Bibles presented in Worship)
We’re excited to have several leaders involved who will share their joy and lifelong experience with being in the Word. Our curriculum and activities will help us understand the Bible as one big God story that helps us know and love him. As each week builds on the next, we encourage families to do their best to set aside each date. On Sunday, March 13 the class will be recognized in worship and the Bible they’ve been using will become theirs to keep for a lifetime! We’ll even engrave their name on the front cover!
It is our prayer that you and your children will be inspired and equipped by this opportunity; that you will start to know Jesus and become like him; that we will all continue to learn, to tell the Good News and become Bible Explorers for a lifetime! It’s sure to be a wonderful time of relationship building with each other, with our Bibles and with our God.
Please contact me to make sure we save a spot for your family!
