COMPARISON FROSIO vs. NACE

The major differences between FROSIO and NACE are:

• FROSIO certification is based on a published, national standard (NS 476 which is based on ISO 17024), whereas NACE have no basis in internationally recognised standards.

• FROSIO is officially accredited under ISO 17024. NACE does not seem to have such accreditation.

• There are no financial connections between FROSIO as a Certifying Body and the approved Training Bodies. FROSIO have no income from training, only from the certification, whereas NACE conduct training as well as certification and get income from both.

• FROSIO has left the training to several approved Training Bodies, which are regularly audited by FROSIO.

Below is an overview of the various levels within the two systems.

|FROSIO |NACE |

|LEVEL |EXPERIENCE |REMARKS |LEVEL |EXPERIENCE |REMARKS |

|Level 1 |None |a) |Level 1 |None |b) |

|Level 2 |2 years | |Level 2 |None |b) |

|Level 3 |5 years | |Level 3 – Peer review |2 years |c) |

a) This level is designated “Inspector Candidate” and is intended for young people without sufficient, relevant experience and individuals who do not necessarily intend to become an inspector, like e.g. engineers involved in projects comprising paint work.

b) These levels were until late 2007 designated as “Recognized Inspector”, but today designated as “Certified Inspector”.

c) Until late 2007 you had to pass the Peer Review in order to become a “NACE Certified Inspector”.
