NITW has good infrastructure, highly qualified and motivated faculty and attracts high caliber students. 8 undergraduate programs and 35 postgraduate programs are successfully run by NITW, besides doctoral programs in all the departments.center144145About Civil Engineering DepartmentOne of the oldest departments of the institute with one undergraduate and 8 postgraduate programs, the department is privileged to be recognized as one of the best Civil Engineering departments in the country. It was the only department to have been recognized as a QIP center right from 1972 and now all the departments are QIP centers. The department has excellent labs to cater to both UG, PG and research programs. The Transportation Division is one of the four divisions of the department.Coordinators: Prof. CSRK Prasad, Transportation DivisionDepartment of Civil EngineeringNIT Warangal, TS -506004Mobile: 9440347348; csrk@nitw.ac.inDr. B Raghuram KadaliTransportation DivisionDepartment of Civil Engineering NIT Warangal, TS -506004Mobile: 8879425755; Email: brkadali@nitw.ac.inREGISTRATION FORMA Five Day Online FDP onRoad Safety Issues and Challenges 7th – 11th December, 2020 TEQIP-Phase IIIName in full :Designation :Organization/Dept:Postal address with e-mail:Mobile No.Education Qualification:Experience & field of specialization:Payment/Transaction Details:Bank:Amount:Place:Date: Signature:Signature of the sponsoring authority:(with office seal)Registration Link to the WHO Global Report on Road Safety 2018, India accounts more number of fatal crashes among the 199 countries. It also reveals that National Highways which comprises of 1.94% percent of total road network which contributes for 30.2 per cent of total road crashes and 35.7 per cent fatal crashes in 2018. Whereas, state highways account for 26.8 per cent of total fatal crashes. These road crashes has significant contribution in nation GDP which is around 2-3%. It is challenge to road engineers and practitioner to minimize the total number of crashes and fatal related crashes, which enable the Indian roads, are more sustainable. In recent days, Government of India promoted various measures to minimize the road crashes by adopting “Road Safety Audit”. The pro-active way to deal with road safety is crash prevention strategy. In this strategy, the precautionary measures are taken before road crash occurs at any given stretch. The expertise of safe road design is applied to ensure that conditions leading to hazardous road crash scenarios can be avoided to a great extent. Road Safety Audit (RSA) is systematic approach for evaluation of existing or new roads by an independent audit team at the stages of planning, design, construction, operation & maintenance to achieve accident free roads and to enhance overall safety performance. RSA is one of the best tools for improvement of road safety; in which experts attempt to identify potentially hazardous locations and suggest remedial measures. RSA is a formal procedure for assessing crashes potential and safety performance in the provision of new road schemes and schemes for the improvement and maintenance of existing roads (IRC:SP-88, 2010). However, there are various challenges to the practitioner in implementation of road safety process. The course is designed intended to create awareness about road safety issues and road safety auditing process to the participants. Road safety audits can be used in any phase of project development from planning and preliminary engineering, design and construction. RSAs can also be used on any sized project from minor rural roads to inter-state National Highways. ObjectiveThis FDP aims to achieve practical knowledge on Road Safety Audit to the practicing Engineers / Consultants / Student Interns, different aspects of road engineering and road safety. The key deliverables of this programme will be:To minimise the risk of high severity crashes that may result from design deficiencies To consider the safety of all road users, including vulnerable road usersTo ensure that collision mitigation measures that may eliminate or reduce potential safety problems are considered fullyCourse contentsGlobal Road Safety ChallengesDesigning for Road Safety Introduction to Road Safety AuditRoad Crash Investigation, Black Spot Identification and Remedial MeasuresSpeed Enforcement and Infrastructure RequirementsNight Time Road Safety AuditStar Rating of Road Network Using iRAPIntelligent Transportation System for Highway Traffic ManagementParticipantsThe workshop is aimed at researchers, academicians, scientists, the upper and middle level engineers/officers working in roads and buildings engineering department, designers, planners, policymakers, municipal corporations, those who are associated in roads, and urban development authorities, who involved in the planning, development, and implementation of roads may this course enable them to understand about the road safety issues and challenges.Resource personsEminent personalities and experts from industry along with faculty of Civil Engineering at NIT Warangal are the resource persons.
