THANKSGIVING how you can help!
Eating a holiday dinner is fun, but helping get everything ready for the big meal can be a lot of fun too. Here are a few things you can do to help out.
Plan the menu. Talk with your family about what you want to have for your holiday dinner. Pick a couple side dishes to go with the main course, like vegetables, potatoes and salad. Then pick something for dessert.
Set the table. While your parents are busy carving the turkey, ham, or roast, offer to set the table. Fold the napkins and then place the forks on the left side of the plate and the knives on the right side.
Lend a hand in the kitchen. There are lots of dishes to get ready for a holiday feast, so ask your parents what you can help with. Maybe you can mash the potatoes or put the rolls in a serving dish. Make sure to ask your parents if you're not sure about certain kitchen tools, like knives.
Clean up. Give your parents a break when dinner is over and help with clean up. Sweep the floor or load the dishwasher so your parents don’t have to.
Your parents will be so happy to have your help. After a full day of cooking, eating and cleaning up, and you can all enjoy a slice of pie for dessert.
This is your November Homework Project!
You are going to plan a Thanksgiving dinner! You are in charge of planning the menu, making a shopping list, writing out a recipe for something you would like to cook, being sure to adjust that recipe so that it will feed the number of people you are expecting.
*If your family is not hosting Thanksgiving Dinner, you can pretend that you are planning dinner for 12 people.
You may want to brainstorm menu items by referencing store flyers and seeing what is on special!
Requirements:
1. Find out how many guests your family expects to have around the dinner table. Create a guest list.
2. Create place cards for each guest.
3. Plan a menu for the Thanksgiving Meal.
4. Pick a favorite recipe and alter it to accommodate the number of guests your family is expecting. Write it out on the provided recipe sheet.
*Maybe you can contribute to the hard work of cooking and actually make this recipe for your guests!
5. Prepare a shopping list of the ingredients you will need to make your recipe. Be sure to adjust amounts to the number of servings you will need to make.
6. With help from an adult try and determine about how much making your recipe will cost. You can look at grocery store advertisements, or maybe even go shopping with a parent!
Bring in the entire project by Friday, November 20th. I will have it all back to you on Monday the 23rd, so that you can take it home before the Thanksgiving Break!
