You are a select group of students that have chosen to study a third year of Spanish. This decision will greatly improve your language skills in English & Spanish as well as prepare you for Spanish 4/AP Spanish. I am excited to share my talents and passion for Spanish language with you this year. It is my goal that you leave this class with an understanding of the language and the Spanish-speaking cultures and a zeal for learning more.Course descriptionThe course begins with a review of essential Spanish I and II skills. Level of instruction assumes a basic knowledge of grammar concepts and vocabulary introduced in Spanish I and II. Emphasis is on communicating in Spanish through speaking, listening, reading, and writing in various aspects of time. Students also study Hispanic culture, geography, and history. Students will participate in individual, paired, and group activities as well as complete written and oral exercises to practice new vocabulary and grammar concepts. Students will also write papers on an assigned topic in Spanish and demonstrate speaking and listening proficiency throughout the semester.Spanish III is an in-depth course that will review and study many of the same topics presented in Spanish I and II but to a greater degree. Speaking, writing, and reading skills will expand as you are challenged with the language. You will continue to study Hispanic culture and traditions, and will have the opportunity to make presentations about the culture. You will be introduced to higher level vocabulary, newspaper and magazine articles from Spain and Latin America. You will also be introduced to the works of some of the major writers of the Spanish-speaking world. At all times, the primary focus will be to increase your ability to communicate in Spanish with ease and confidence. The language of the class is Spanish. It is assumed that students will summon up the courage to speak this language as much as possible whenever they are in class. Prerequisite: Espa?ol I and IITo take Spanish III, you must have a Spanish I and II credit either through taking the course or by placement test. It is highly recommended that you have made at least a final grade of "C" in Spanish II before taking Spanish III. IMPORTANT NOTE: Students in Spanish III have the option to take this class as a Dual Enrollment (I highly recommend this wonderful opportunity). Dual Enrollment allows lower division college courses (100-200) to be taught at the high school during regular hours. This course is counted toward high school requirements, giving the student the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit for the same course. More information about Dual enrollment will be provided in class in the next few weeks.
