Farewell

November 13th….this day is the start of a new chapter and journey for me, Linda Heon, Program Technician. I’ve accepted a position as a Farm Loan Officer Trainee located in Massachusetts State FSA Office, Amherst. To my friends and coworkers, I say farewell and wish each of you all the best. To the Windham County farmers, I say good-bye and it has been my pleasure and privilege to serve you these past (almost) 30 years! Be sure to stop in and say Hello if your travels take you to 445 West Street, Amherst, MA.

Erroneous Payments

An extensive review by FSA and OMB has determined that some county offices have not had producers complete all the required paperwork for some program payments. All county offices are being required to conduct checklists of programs and update many of our forms. We expect to send new forms to producers to assure that all forms are accurate for your farm operation and to avoid any concerns about proper payments. Please call if you have any questions about the report or forms required.

Help Wanted

We will be seeking a temporary employee to assist with Program Technician responsibilities in our office. This position will not provide benefits. All applicants must be U.S. Citizens. The successful applicant must be responsible for carrying out office activities and functions pertaining to technical assistance and program support related to FSA programs at the field office level. The person will use various types of computer systems to maintain producer data and process automated program forms and processes. A high degree of initiative and judgment in planning and carrying out assigned tasks, and resolving problems encountered is required. The successful candidate must work cooperatively in a team environment. Call for details.

Loan Deficiency Program (LDP)

Low corn, wool and mohair market prices mean that farms can earn an LDP payment on crops or fiber produced in 2006. Corn producers earn an LDP when the rate falls below $2.25/bushel. The market price for corn is expected to stay high for a while. You must have possession of the corn, wool or mohair at time of application. Check on LDP rates through these deadline dates:

Mohair – January 1st

Wool – March 31st

Corn – May 31st

Emergency Loans

If you had more than a 30% loss in crop production, you may qualify for a low interest emergency loan. Contact Ron Clark, Farm Loan Manager, 860-887-3604 x 3023 for more information.
