3. Round edge brush – use for eye shadow and repairing smudges

4. The LCS Essential Lip Brush

5. The LCS Essential Foundation Skunk brush – use for applying foundation

6. Witch hazel – use for skin refreshing

7. “Simple” – excellent eye make up remover

Hints

• Always brush Blotting powder in the direction of facial hair NEVER against it

• If your foundation is slightly yellow or a shade darker than you require, mix in some translucent powder or a little talc powder for a lighter effect

• To brighten tired eyes and make them look bigger smudge a small dot of red lipstick in the inner eye corners

• To avoid emphasizing lines and wrinkles never apply powders to the outer eye area

• To apply eyeliner in particular liquid eyeliner, rest your elbow on the mirror and begin drawing from the middle of the eyelid out. Resting your elbow provides stability and can help reduce wobbly lines

• Simple is a great eye make up remover

• All eye makeup can be applied before foundation if you haven’t yet mastered the art and mistakes are frequent

• Apply Blush to the apples of your cheeks closer to the nose

• Stand away from the mirror and check from a distance if your eyebrows are defined enough and shape your face

• Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips for better lipstick application

Women wore both angular square styles (e.g. the bob a la Miss Fisher. In the U.S., "the bob" was reintroduced by actress Louise Brooks in the late 1920s.) and they also wore curled styles.

Bobbed haircuts experienced a revival during the First World War for practical reasons. These early Bobs such as the "Castle Bob", "Dutch Bob", and "Page Bob" were relatively plain but as time went by women looked for ways to enhance the Bob. Large numbers of women changed from long hair to short hair between 1923 and 1928. In 1925 the curled "Mae Murray" and the "Rose Petal" Bob were the rage as women began to realize the importance of individual styling.

You might have seen this on Downtown Abbey - Husbands didn’t approve of hair cut short, so women tied it up to the flapper level .

Try to always ensure your hair is not freshly washed before styling. Clean hair is slippery and difficult to style. This style is best attempted with slightly damp hair if time permits

1. Thoroughly comb hair to remove knots and kinks

2. Section hair into 3 to 5cm squares

3. Lightly mist with water or setting spray

4. Ribbon hair around index finger and ENSURE ends of hair are tucked inside the curl

5. Secure curl to head with pin curl clip or two bobby pins in a criss cross making sure that curl does not lose it’s shape

6. Repeat process for next curl making sure it covers the part of the previous curl

7. Mist head with setting spray

8. Blast head with hot heat from hairdryer or sit under a bonnet dryer ( if your lucky enough to own one)

9. Wrap head in a bandana, scarf or doo rag

10. Once sufficient time has past remove pins from hair beginning with bottom rows first

11. Lightly brush hair if you want to achieve a wavy appearance or gently comb each individual curl and allow it to drop to achieve the distinct pin curl look.

12. If crown area is frizzy apply a small amount of Brylcreme/Vaseline Tonic to the palms of your hands and smooth over area.

13. Set hair by giving hair a final coat of hairspray

Styling Hair

Setting Rolls

1. Decide upon the look you want i.e., forwards, backwards, twists and how many you want

2. Section hair from the top of the earlobe up to the crown

3. For fine hair use a teasing comb and back comb the roots to add a little volume

4. Section out the first roll and spray with hairspray

5. Using a dolly peg place the strand of hair in between the prong and bring the peg to the ends of the hair

6. Roll the peg up the hair and then twist into the direction and position you would like the roll

7. Remove the dolly peg from the roll and firmly hold in place with fingers

8. Replace fingers with bobby pins (with time and practise you should only need 1 or 2 pins)

9. Ensure bobby pins are not visible

10. Spray to hold

Hints

• Use a medium hold hairspray rather than strong hold

• If you have fine hair a ‘rat’ can be used to create the illusion of thick full rolls (use a rat the same colour as your hair)

• Never use rollers on wet hair, the curls will be too tight and unable to dry

• When using rollers curl the hair loosely to avoid frizzing

• When curling hair either by rollers or pin curls do not allow the hair strand to twist or turn

• To avoid a messy looking doo, make sure your parts are straight

• To create a perfectly smooth doo, straighten hair with a straightening iron before putting into rollers or victory rolls, this seals hair cuticles and reduces the appearance of fly aways and frizz

• When using rollers always place the roller at the very bottom of the strand before rolling up the shaft, this stops yucky crispy fishhooks from forming and ruining your beautiful doo

Fashion:

Unfortunately, as is the case today some people think equality means “women should be like men”. How this related to fashion was strapping down one’s breasts.

Night time/flapper: “Kick up your heels the war is over!”

But it brought trousers into women’s’ wardrobes for the first time. Women had a new free and those with enough money embraced it through exotic travels. Agatha Christie based many of Poirot’s adventures on her own experiences abroad. “Death on the Nile” and “Death Comes as the End” were inspired by her love to Egyptology and no doubt she was influenced by her second husband, an archaeologist. Indeed the world was fascinated with Egypt in the 1920’s with Howard Carters rediscovery of the tomb of 14th-century BC pharaoh Tutankhamun
