App 1: My Script CalculatorThis app can be used at any grade level and it covers any common core standard in math since it is a calculator. It is designed for students to write on the tablet and the app converts the writing to text. This is good for students who have issues with the size of the buttons on a calculator as well as those who have issues with finding the correct buttons. I would use it with my students who become overwhelmed with the number of buttons that are on the graphing calculators that we use in the classroom. AppIRAISTEKTS6My Script CalculatorThe app allows students to hand write the problem and the app then turns the handwriting into text. You can change the settings so the app automatically calculates the answer if wanted.4.2This app helps students that struggle with using the graphing calculators and impact their view point on calculators.Standard 4The app allows students to think about the math problems they have at hand and to solve them. 6.3The app is used to help accommodate students who struggle with the graphing calculators.App 2: 5 DiceThis app is for upper elementary and middle school students. One standard that it covers is 6.EE.A.2 which is evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). There are standards that help understand Order of Operations in the fourth and fifth grade as well. I would use this for students who get done with their work early. It can be used to challenge those students who understand Order of Operations as well as you can limit the number of operations that can be used to help those students who are still struggling with it. AppIRAISTEKTS65 Dice?A math game that helps students enjoy practicing their order of operations. The game encourages students to use higher order thinking to solve the "target" number by working backwards given the answer but not the equation. The best feature about this simple math game is that teachers are able to receive immediate feedback of their students’ progress through email.4.1The app engages the students in practicing the Order of Operations which in time will positively impact their knowledge of the Order of Operations. Standard 4The app creates problems that the students that to think critically about to solve. 6.3The app is used appropriately to vary the practice and instruction of the Order of Operations.App 3: Khan AcademyThe Khan Academy app covers all content areas for all grade levels. That is what is amazing about this app is that students can use it from class to class. The way this will be used in my classroom as a way to support the lessons I have created. I may have students pull a specific video up to watch as a class to help support the notes we are taking. It will also be used to help differentiate interventions for students that need them.AppIRAISTEKTS6Khan AcademyIt is a library of over 4,200 videos and articles. The videos also have subtitles. Students can also track their progress on it.2.2The app is used to help enhance the instruction as well as differentiate intervention.Standard 2The app has a feature when the students sign into the app it will email the teacher their progress. Which is the student communicating on what they are doing on the app. All of the standardsThis app can be used to help plan and facilitate instruction. Students are using the app to enhance learning. Student can email their progress to the teacher. All of this shows ethical use of technology. App 4: Math Terms This app covers the vocabulary of the math of grades 6-12. So it covers multiple common core standards for those grades. What I plan on doing with this app is to have it available for students to be able to look up math vocabulary words that they don’t know. I like it because it only has math specific terms. AppIRAISTEKTS6Math TermsMath Terms is an illustrated glossary of mathematics terms in English and Spanish. The app includes almost 1,000 entries for middle- and high-school mathematical concepts.?2.2The app is used to help enhance the instruction by incorporating vocabulary definitions.Standard 2When a student asks about a definition of a word, they can look it up on the app then communicate to the class what the definition is. 6.1,6.2 & 6.5This app can be used to help plan and aid in instruction. Students are using the app to enhance learning. All of this shows ethical use of technology. App 5: Shuttle Mission MathThis app has students working on the very basic equations and inequalities. It is a fun way for them to practice their multiplication and division facts as well as reinforce the relationship between them. I plan on using this app as part of intervention for students to practice their multiplication and division facts. I also will use it with students who are finished since the levels do get harder as you go advance. AppIRAISTEKTS6Shuttle Mission MathShuttle Mission Math is a mathematical puzzle game that makes algebraic thinking both visual and interactive. The goal is to find the weight of each space creature and assemble a team for the next shuttle mission.2.2The app will be used to help enhance intervention by letting students practice their multiplication and division facts in a fun way.Standard 4The app creates problems that the students that to think critically and recall background knowledge to solve. 6.1, 6.2 & 6.5This app can be used to aid in intervention. Students are using the app to enhance learning. This shows students using the technology ethically. What the readings suggest about the benefits of using iPads/tablets is that is allows students to use their background knowledge of other digital literacy tools to figure out how to navigate it without a lot of instruction from the teacher. It also gives them opportunities to work collaboratively to figure out solutions when they come across problems. Also another benefit is that if you have English Language Learners, the iPads can be programmed to display in different languages (Hutchison, Beschorner & Schmidt-Crawford, 2012). The iPads also allows you to use different apps that can help support different learning styles and stages of learning. One student may need the text larger or another might need the screen to be dimmer. iPads allow students to be at different spots and levels without it being noticeable (Larson, 2010). When looking at how to use the apps/tablets and the TPACK model is that most students know how to use the basic functions of an iPad but when used to enhance the lesson that you are teaching shows students that the iPad can be used for more than entertainment. This helps take students from the praxis level to the phronesis level where they are asking each other, Why are you? All components of the TPACK will come into play with using the actual apps. Some of the apps students will use individually, while some of the apps work better when students are working collaboratively to encourage the communication between them, for example the second app discussed, 5 dice, can create some rich dialogue between students. Again, when actually using the iPad apps and thinking about how they can enhance my classroom, I am excited to try and get some to use in my class. ................
