AMERICAN BUSINESS WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION – HEART OF THE PIEDMONT CHAPTER

SELECTION CRITERIA: Local Scholarship: Student or parent/guardian must be a member of Davidson Water, Inc. – all customers of Davidson Water are members. Based on scholastic achievement, extra curricular activities and financial need, 2 recommendations. Must be accepted at a four-year college.

ELECTRONIC SECURITY ASSOCIATION YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

SELECTION CRITERIA: Parent must be a full-time public safety office (police/fire) with the police or sheriff’s department or fire department (or volunteer fire department). Selection criteria: GPA, SAT/ACT scores, essay, activities/extracurriculars. 1st place winner of each state will be considered for national award.

FAFSA ON THE WEB

Selection Criteria: Anyone interested in financial aid for college should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible after January 1, 2012. You may print out a pre-application worksheet for Web filers from the website. You and your parent can also prepare by each applying for a US Department of Education PIN at pin.. Your PIN enables you to sign your FAFSA electronically. There is also information about federal student aid on this site. If you don’t want to file online, you can download a form from the website or request a paper copy 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243). Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: Students planning to attend Forsyth Tech can apply for many scholarships for various programs using one application. Criteria vary for different scholarships. Students need to apply to Forsyth Tech before submitting scholarship application. MATTHEW C. GRAZIADEI ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Selection Criteria: North Carolina Scholarship: Awarded to a high school senior with a disability who demonstrates determination, perseverance, persistence, dedication, confidence, motivation, fortitude, accomplishment, excellence and quality. Money to be used for any post high school learning experience/training or for equipment/technology needed for employment.

THURGOOD MARSHALL COLLEGE FUND

Selection Criteria: Merit based, must have a financial need to qualify, GPA >= 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, must file FAFSA, attend one of the 47 TMCF Member Schools, (Public Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Includes Winston-Salem State, NC A&T, NC Central, Fayetteville, and Elizabeth City. MILITARY OFFICERS OF AMERICA ASSOCIATION – TAR HEEL CENTRALCHAPTER

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship (Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, and Yadkin counties): Must be either currently enrolled in a JROTC unit in chapter area or the child of a military service member who was wounded or died while on active or reserve duty. For pursuit of further education, preferably for student pursuing education leading to a military career. (Not mandatory or prerequisite that children of military service members consider military service in order to be eligible.) Selection criteria: demonstrated leadership, academic achievement, honors, school, and community service, and initiative. Financial need will not be a consideration.

MILLENIUM TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP LOAN PROGRAM

Selection Criteria: For students who are interested in teaching in North Carolina public schools. Must attend Elizabeth City State University, Fayetteville State University, Winston-Salem State University. GPA>=2.5, SAT>=900. Must have minimum of $3000 financial need as defined by the campus financial aid officer. Required to teach in NC for one year for every year of scholarship assistance or must repay loan.

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: West can nominate one male and one female athlete. Academics, athletic participation, 2 recommendation forms – one from a coach and one from an academic teacher. If all else is equal financial need will become a factor. SOCIETY OF HISPANIC PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: Merit- and need-based scholarships for Hispanic-descent students who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude for a career in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. GPA >=3.0.

STATE EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION OF NORTH CAROLINA (SEANC) SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: North Carolina Scholarship: Parent or guardian must be state employee/retiree and be a member of SEANC. (Can apply for membership with scholarship application.) Scholarships can be applied for based on merit regardless of financial need or both need and merit. For 2- or 4-year college.

SECU “PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE” SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: West Forsyth Student Scholarship: One student from West will receive a scholarship. Must attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the UNC system. For a student who best exemplifies the philosophy of “People Helping People” and has demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. Must have GPA>=2.5. Preference will be to students whose parents or guardians and family members are public sector employees who live and work in NC but are not an employee of the State Employee’s Credit Union or Foundation.

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: Strong character, leadership, and academics (GPA>=3.0), as well as demonstrated interest in wildlife or environmental issues as shown through active participation in the Forsyth Audubon Society of or through involvement in wildlife or other environmental activities either at school or in the community.

UNC-CHAPEL HILL - ELIZABETH T. WILLIAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship. GPA >= 3.0; participation in school clubs or activities; participation in non-school community service; participation directly in athletics or in support positions for athletics; good moral character. Scholarship will be awarded to a senior from Forsyth County attending Chapel Hill.

Selection Criteria: Outstanding entering freshmen can complete a scholarship application online to be considered for the university’s Named Scholarships. Other scholarship opportunities include departmental scholarship programs and the Honors Scholars Program. You can check with your academic department of interest for departmental scholarships.

Selection Criteria: 12 NC County scholarship – For a student planning to enter into an emergency service curriculum at a community college, technical institute, or an accredited trade school. Selection based on academics, financial need, character, and promise of future contribution to our State and Nation.

WINSTON-SALEM ENGINEERS CLUB

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: Plan to pursue an education in an engineering related field at a North Carolina school. Awarded based on merit and extra-curricular activities; essay or reasons for entering field of engineering; financial need will be considered if presented by the applicant.

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: African-American student from a WS/FC school with unweighted GPA >=3.0 and good citizenship as evidenced by involvement in school and community activities.

WINSTON-SALEM FOUNDATION

Selection Criteria: Includes Many Local Scholarships: All West Forsyth seniors who plan to continue their education after graduation should consider completing an online application for various scholarships through the Winston-Salem Foundation. The Winston-Salem Foundation is a tax-exempt organization that has over 100 scholarship funds from which loans, scholarships and grants are made for post high school education. Some awards are need-based and some are merit-based. Criteria may include level of income, academic performance, and community/school service. Other criteria may also be factors in the decision-making process; for example, specific colleges, various majors, etc. A number of scholarships are for Forsyth County seniors. Many applications have a deadline of April 15, 2012. Most scholarships require a GPA of at least 2.0. After a student completes the general application, they will be notified of specific scholarships for which they may be eligible.

WINSTON-SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY – KUANDELEA ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Selection Criteria: Local Scholarship: Graduate from a WS/FC high school and plan to attend Winston-Salem State University, GPA>=3.25, SAT>=950 or ACT>=19. One scholarship will be awarded to student majoring in a teacher education program.
