DIRECTIONS NARRATIVE
From Houston Intercontinental Airport
There are two main thoroughfares leaving IAX, they are John F. Kennedy Blvd. and Will Clayton Pkwy. I recommend departing on John F. Kennedy Blvd. travelling southbound. Turn right, west bound on N. Sam Houston Parkway (toll road). The tollway is a loop around some of the larger traffic snags in Houston. Stay westbound on the toll road through three toll booths ($1.00 each). You will cross over Interstate 10 and come to the last of three tolls. The next major exit will be for Hwy 59. Exit Hwy 59 to Victoria, Texas turning right (southbound).
In roughly 2 hours, you will be approaching Victoria, Texas. Passing the Hwy 87 exit, the next exit will be for FM 185 to Seadrift/Port O’Connor, Texas. Exit FM 185 and turn left, south bound (approximately 30 minutes from Seadrift). At Hwy 35, there is a jog in which you will turn right for a short distance before turning on FM 185 left to resume travel to Seadrift. This jog is less than a few hundred yards on Hwy 35.
From Hobby Airport
All departures end up on Airport Blvd. which runs along the northern edge of Hobby Airport. I recommend turning left on Airport Blvd heading west. Take the first left on Telephone Rd. This will come to S. Sam Houston Parkway which is a toll way around the more congested traffic problems in Houston. Turn right, westbound on the toll road. You will proceed through two tolls ($1.00 each) before coming to the major intersection of Hwy 59 S. Exit Hwy 59 turning left to Victoria, Texas.
Arriving In Seadrift / Directions To Castaway Lodge
Upon arrival in Seadrift, you will come to a Shell Station on your right and then First National Bank. Opposite the Bank is a car wash on the corner of W. Austin and FM 185. Turn left at the car wash. The Lodge will be immediately on your right. Make the next right turn on Second Street and pull into the parking area. Welcome!
From All Other Points
When travelling by vehicle, I recommend that you consult a Texas map looking for the best highway access to Victoria, Texas. Once in Victoria, Texas, please see the directions above for the best route to Seadrift and lodging directions.
Corpus “Fast Track”
Coming from the airport find Hwy 181/35 to Portland. Just east of Portland you will come to an exit for FM 136 to Bayside. Take the exit and proceed North through Bayside. FM 136 will change to FM 2678 somewhere after Bayside without notice. FM 2678 will come to a three way dead end stop at FM 774 (turn right). FM 774 will re-join Hwy 35. Turn left on Hwy 35 through Tivoli. When seeing the industrial plants in the distance be looking for FM 185 exit to Seadrift and turn right. You’ll be here in 10 minutes.
San Antonio Basics – Hwy 87 is the fastest.
Austin Basics – FM 183 out of Austin to Luling/Victoria will connect to Hwy 87 and this is typically fastest route.

At the end of Lane Rd, take the first and only paved road to the right (Welder Rd). Charlies will be visible approximately 500 yards away. Things To Know
Licenses
The easiest approach to out-of-state licensing and licensing in general is to make these arrangements ahead of time. This is best done by calling 1-800-TX-LIC-4U.
Air Boat Transportation
Many of our duck hunting locations are accessed by airboat depending upon water levels and difficulty of access in the back marsh. We recommend that your gear be securely stowed in waterproof bags. There can be no loose items in this boat.
HUNTER'S CHECKLIST
The following is a thorough list of what each hunter should bring to ensure enjoyment of the outdoors. Texas weather is tough to predict. Please prepare for temperatures warmer and colder than you think possible. Bold items are essential.
|Shotguns - At least two (28/20/12 gauge |Rain Gear/Parka/Jacket |
|recommended) |Gun cleaning kit |
|Steel Shot Shells |Camo clothing (brown/green) |
|Ducks (2 3/4" - 3" #2's, 4's, or 6's) * |Camera |
|Geese (2 3/4" – 3" BB's, BBB,s, T) |Ice chests |
|Chest Waders/Hip Boots |Texas hunting license/voucher |
|Mosquito spray |(Call 1-800-TX-LIC-4U) |
|Camo Face net/mask |Federal Waterfowl Stamp |
* We encourage our hunters not to bring 3.5” loads for our ducks. So please, leave the 3.5’s at home. You will not be happy with them here.
Bird Processing
Bird processing fees are not included in the price of hunt packages as it is a variable that we cannot predict. These fees run approximately $2.50 for ducks and $3.00 for geese. Should you elect to not take birds home, cleaning and processing fees must still be paid. We will assist you with making donations of the meat to area charities. If you would like to clean your own birds at no charge, feel free to do so. We will assist you with storage until your departure.
