Use of PANGEL products in water-borne systems

PANGEL S Series

Rheological additives produced from high-purity sepiolite with outstanding suspension and anti-sagging capacity unaffected by electrolytes.

PANGEL W Series

Organically modified rheological additives, specifically developed to enhance thickening and anti-sagging properties. PANGEL W provides also water retention and excellent brushability.

PANGEL M Series

Rheological additives produced from high-purity bentonite for easy gelling and dispersing capacity.

Use of PANGEL products in solvent-borne systems

PANGEL B Series

Rheological organoclay additives based upon high-purity sepiolite with extra-performance and additional suspension capacity, anti-sagging and homogenizing properties. They have been designed to adapt to different polarities.

PANGEL OM Series

Rheological organoclay additives based upon high-purity bentonite for easy incorporation to solvent-based systems. Their different organophilic behaviour has been designed to adapt to different polarities.

PANGEL OMD Series

Self-activated organoclay additives based upon high-purity bentonite for easy incorporation to solvent-based systems. Their different organophilic behaviour has been designed to adapt to different polarities.

PANSIL? UltraSpheres

Ceramic semisolid spherical fillers for water and solvent based systems. They are used for improving abrasion and burnish of coatings enhancing barrier characteristics of the paint. Their spherical and low surface area allow increasing solid content and reduce VOC and binder need.

Clay gelling mechanisms

Products from the PANGEL series are sold as micronized solids. Their dispersion process is similar to that of the other solid components of the formulation, ensuring an appropriate wetting of the product and application of sufficient mechanical energy (shear).

PANGEL S and PANGEL B additives are different in nature to traditional bentonite-based additives and thus they require to be dispersed in the system in a specific way so they can develop their optimal performance: Dispersion of PANGEL S and PANGEL B additives requires an appropriate particle wetting and subsequently a mechanical agitation that's guarantees peripheral speeds between 18 and 25 m/s, maintaining the doughnut effect in the agitation tank. The use of a dispersion equipment of Cowles type or horizontal or vertical grinding equipment is recommended.

PANGEL additives have been specially designed to optimize the rheology of the whole thickening systems either alone or in combination with others organic additives.

? Sagging control while maintaining excellent levelling properties, due to the good thixotropic and shear thinning performance.

? Optimal stability during transportation and storage, avoiding the settling of pigments and fillers because of the increased of the "gel strength".

Function High shear thinning. Normally used as a co-thickener with HEC or associative thickeners for improving syneresis and sedimentation. It replaces attapulgite thickeners at half dosage. Enhanced thickening efficiency along with anti-sag and sedimentation prevention. Increases wash and scrub resistance. Good thickener for water-based epoxys and 100% acrylics. It can be used alone or in combination with HEC in standard emulsion paints. Stability and viscosity control with very fast dispersion. Viscosity enhancement with pseudoplastic and thixotropic behavior in high solid media.

Solvent-borne systems

TOLSA includes in its portfolio a wide offer of different organoclay additive adapted to all kind of incorporation procedures and polarity systems. PANGEL products provide suspension and sagging resistance properties and reaching high consistency levels without affecting viscosity during applications. PANGEL products exhibit their high effectiveness as anti-settling additives in formulations with medium to high solid content.
