FDP101x - Foundation Program in ICT for EducationMY COURSE JOURNAL D BARATHPRASANNAAssistant ProfessorDepartment of mechanicalRVR&JC College of EngineeringINTRODUCTIONAbout this FDP:The purpose of conducting this FDP was explained by Dr. Deepak Phatak, Principal Investigator of T10KT projectSyllabus:The course objectives included in the syllabus are:(I)Identify various ICT devices and applications useful in teaching-learning(II)Develop awareness towards ethical practices for use of ICT in education(III)Make use of best practices for information dissemination using ICTReflection Spots: (Questions asked in the videos)(1) Give one example of the interactions that happened between the teacher, content and Learner in a classroom?Teacher interaction with the students takes place by the subject discussion in the class room &student interaction takes place by asking the doubts(2) What is the equivalent of an Instructor Video in a regular teaching-learning interaction? The teacher giving lecture to the students in the classroom.(3)What are the additional features does the video provide?Pause & play whenever required, control of volume, control of speed etc.,(4) What are the advantages in answering the questions immediately after watching LeDs?Revision of all the topics takes place immediately. We can reflect on what we have learnt previously.(5) What is the function of Assimilation Quizzes? They are very helpful in the assimilation of the key concepts from the syllabus.(6)The advantages of having a structured group discussion? The students will becomemore interactive. There will be scope for new ideas.(7)What did you learn while doing the activity of writing (course journal)? It helps in recollecting all the covered topics, helps to think while writing.Web presence for teachersWhat is internet?Ans: A global network that provides a variety of information and communication facilities.can communicate with any other computer as long as they are both connected to the?Internet. The Internet allows computers from all over the world to speak to each other. How the information travels from one computer to another network?Data travels through the internet in the form of packets. A packet can carry a maximum of 1,500 bytes. What do you think are the activities/processes taking place from the time you send it to the time you receive a response?Data travels through the internet in the form of packets. A packet can carry a maximum of 1,500 bytes, these packets contain a wrapper with a header and a footer. The information in the wrapper tells to the computers what kind of data was in the packet, how it fits together with other data, where the data came from and the data's final destination. In the second section is about website creation using word press. LED 2.1: Tools for website creationMainly there are two kinds of web sites. Those are simple and Multifunctional. word press is simple website where we can share ideas, research materials related to our area and videos of domain.By sharing our web link anyone can view.and Drupal is used for Multifunctional web site. Both word press and Drupal are recommended, both are free and open source.LED 2.2: Basic customization in WordPressIn this Led I have learnt how to customize the web page created likeChanging the title, introducing a tag line, calendar, changing colors, themes etc. by fallowing the steps.LED 2.3: Adding content in WordPressIn this Led activity I have learnt Using basic content types that are provided in default i.e., blog & page, creating a blog and page, adding content in them.LED 2.4: Managing content in WordPressIn this Led activity I have learnt Using the control panel managing the blogs, media, pages, deciding whether to allow people to comment or not, on posts in the website etc.,LED 2.5: Advanced customization in WordPressIn this Led activity I have learnt Uploading files to media library, adding captions, inserting the files, linking pages etc.,By going through all the videos, I have created a faculty profile and customized it & link is Our Own Video ResourcesLED 3.1 &3.2 ?VISUAL PRESENTATION In this week,?Dr. Sameer Sahasrabudhe starts by explaining the different considerations that we have to remember when creating our visual presentation by planning, executing and making impressions for different types of contents. He also explained the importance of using different colors when making visual presentations and the rule of thumb when using colors. He also given detailed explanation about the types of graphics, corresponding type of content which could be used.Reflection spot:What visual parameters should be taken care of during the preparation of the slide design so that website visitors find it easier to understand?Ans:Using graphics is important in visual presentations. There are two types of graphics mainly which can be classified, the first is about the static graphics, which are photographs or images, drawings, illustrations etc., In the second type motion graphics or videos you can see things like animations, simulations, video shot by cameras and other things. Different types of graphics to make the slides effective. Green dot on a slide depicts the guidelines. Colour selection and back ground selection is also very important in visual presentation.Reflection Spot: what do you think are the considerations you have to make when using fonts and colors in slide design? How many font types, font sizes and colours will you use in the design of your slides? Ans: I preferably use a bigger font for the title and a different font for the content. However, I am using more than two fonts for the presentation. As far as colours are concerned I would use standard black colour for the text and may be a different colour not very bright for all titles of slides.?CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSINGA video was explaining the importanceCreative Commons licensing. As we are into content creation, detailing was given about Creative Commons licensing that we should be applying throughout this FDP and also in our own teaching-learning practices. We came to know after watching the video about different types of creative commons licenses available. A youtube video by user Sarah Morehouse demonstrates the?Creative Commons License Chooser?version 3.0. Current license chooser page will have slight variations as now it has reached version 4.0.LED 3.3 SPOKEN TUTORIAL PROJECT AND OTHER SCREENCASTING TOOLSThe next learning dialogues was by Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, detailing how the Spoken Tutorial Project at IIT Bombay utilizes the video creation process. This was followed by a practice activity, where we were asked to create a short video on "How to create a website in WordPress" in a local language that comfortable with us. These videos have to be uploaded in YouTube and shared with peers in the learning experience interaction this week. LED 3.4 CREATING SPOKEN TUTORIALSIn this Section, I have learned about how to create a spoken tutorial and gone through the spoken tutorial web site. Camstudio is an open source software for creating the spoken tutorials. Apart from this, there are many other screen casting software’s using which we can create spoken tutorials. I have done the LbD in this section.OTHER SOFTWARE TOOLSThere are many software tools are available to create our own educational resourcesScreencasting softwareVision mixerSome non –GPL Softwares are availableScreencast-O-maticTechsmith jingTechsmith camtasiaQuicktime.RESOURSE CREATION IN LOCAL LANGUAGEIn this section a video created by following the given instructionMULTIMEDIA PRINCIPLESMultimedia principles help learners to learn better when they are using different learning materials of your course. By watching the videos below by Prof. Richard E. Mayer to give important considerations which can consider when eveloping a teaching-learning resources such as the screencasting activity. ................
