Competitors are responsible for the purchasing, care of, and posting correct targets for individual matches. Check score sheet for the proper scoring and posting of individual match scores. Targets must be posted in the upright vertical position, as issued and unaltered in all matches.Sighting targets are allowed in all matches except those indicated in the program & may be purchased for $1.00 each. A qualified Range Officer will be on duty whenever the range is open, as well as Block Officers on pistol and primitive ranges.Only members of the Ontario Muzzle Loading Association are entitled to compete in these Provincial matches. Memberships are available at the shoot & must be taken prior to purchasing & posting of targets.Junior shooters are to be accompanied by & under direct supervision of an adult member of the OMLA at all times while on the firing line.All matches are patched round ball unless otherwise noted. BLACK POWDER is the only propellant allowed. No duplex loading. Cross stick matches are to be shot using range-supplied cross sticks only. These are to remain petitors are required to supply their own shooting benches. They may also supply their own log and/ or chunk. Logs may be blocked in such a fashion as to prevent free rolling.Flintlock shooters: Flint shields are required at all times and on all ranges. (Handgun, rifle, and primitive).Rifles used to compete in matches subject to weight restrictions must be weighed prior to the shooting of those matches. Failure to comply may result in disqualification of the targets concerned. Weight stickers must remain on the rifle for the duration of the shoot.All muskets must be inspected for as issue sights and a minimum trigger pull of 3 pounds prior to the shooting of matches. Stickers will be attached to indicate acceptable compliance.Consult the program for more detailed restrictions re: weights, sights, posting yardage, target configuration.Consult the Range Officer prior to posting damaged targets. Targets are to remain posted in the frames for only the time period allotted for that match. Exceptions are made for unforeseen circumstances as described in the O.M.L.A. rule book. Consult the Range Officer immediately upon having the problem occur.Targets that are difficult to score or damaged in any way should be left on the posting board for the Range Officer and Scoring Officer to rule upon.LISTEN TO AND OBEY ALL COMMANDS AND INSTRUCTIONS OF THE RANGE OFFICER. If your gun is loaded at the time the cease fire is called, the Range Officer will give permission to unload your gun in a safe manner. Indicate that your firearm is loaded when the Range Officer asks “Any hot ones.”No smoking or fire of any kind on the firing line or near powder or supplies.No firearm will be loaded or caps snapped until the command “Commence Loading”. Guns will be carried muzzle up between loading benches & firing line with the muzzle above the shooter’s head. Guns will be held in horizontal position only at the firing line, pointing down range.No open power containers on the firing line or loading benches. Powder must be poured into the gun with a powder measure, not from the container. No blowing down gun barrel to clear obstruction.No firearm will be capped or primed except at the firing line & no firearm will be removed from the range while loaded.Clearing misfires: Extreme caution must be used including reasonable care to inform neighbouring shooters. The breeching of a firearm or pulling of a bullet must be done in such a manner that there is no danger to persons or property. The use of a CO2 ball discharger is highly recommended.Safety glasses and hearing protection are recommended, but not mandatory.The use of or impairment from intoxicating beverages and/or drugs on the firing line will not be permitted.Board members must be current members of the O.M.L.A. Only Board members may attend Board meeting.SOPER EVENT The Soper Event is named after Philo Soper, a 18th century gun maker from London, Ontario.
