Introduction .com

My topic is “Happy Halloween!”. Halloween festival is one of the best time of the year for many of us to celebrate with a variety of ghost, funny traditions and gloomy. The design of my book cover would catch people's attention, get them into Halloween mood and brings immense scary feelings. The information below illustrates the process, hardware and software tools that are used for production of a poster to attract and convey the idea, what have I learned during the preparation, creation, implementation and I also identified a lot of items in this assignment for further improvement or corrective action.

In order to achieve a better quality of a poster with more realistic image/feeling, I think that both hardware and software tools, preparation work as needed. In this regard, I have a plan to carry out on-site inspection to find out more information about “Halloween”. In Hong Kong, Halloween festival has been growing over the past few years and we’ve got certainly the most authentic Halloween celebration at Hong Kong Disneyland. Luckily, I have participated in a lucky draw and got a free ticket of Halloween Nights at Hong Kong Disneyland. I won’t missed a this chance!

How to get a high quality photo of the Halloween themed elements? One of most important hardware is a Camera. I just recently bought my first DSLR camera, Panasonic LUMIX DMC GF2W with zoom lens, “LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6” with it. It is more suitable for point and shoot photographer. I use it mostly and feel it works wonderfully. I used the iA (Intelligent Auto) mode to make shooting easy for our inexperienced photographers. On the way I took some scenery shots by using the camera with Low light levels; ISO 800, 1/8 second at f/3.5 at that Halloween event and was super excited to see the decorations for designing of my poster of Halloween. One the other hand, Software is even more important. I have used Adobe Photoshop to create, edit, adding a special visual effect in my poster of Halloween and making it with scary feelings!

Regarding graphical layout, composition and elements, I used a horrible nights on the background with Gothic House, Dark graveyard and Angle of Death. To further strengthen the reader's sense of scary feeling, I added the "blood dripping effect" to a text, glowing moon, and mummy by using Adobe Photoshop CS5. The back cover of a book will include Mummy

and dripping bloody. The tables below show information about what type of text, font size, colour, and visual effect are being used on my poster of Halloween. Amazing!

Book's Front cover

Dripping Blood Text Effect

Visual effect: Create bloody looking text that appears to be bleeding and dripping blood

Font: Ghoulish Fright

Features used: text tool, move tool, liquify filter and gradient overlay

Colour: #9f0404

Glowing moon

Visual effect: Draw a circle and add some effects such as Outer Glow effect. Add the terrain and then make it look like a sphere. I added more contrast to the moon so it could look like it is shining.

Halloween Bats

Visual effect: Make use of Brushes tool to draw bats with various sizes between 3-7px and black colour.

Book's back cover - Make use of “Mummy” as a background image and adding dripping blood to increase scary effect

Features used: move tool, liquify filter and gradient overlay

Colour: #9f0404

I have never used Photoshop before but I sensed that it is great and amazing editing program to help us for graphical design. However, I have encountered a lot of problems when I am using this powerful tool. There are all kinds of menus, commands, and shortcuts (keyboard) that we've got to figure out. I have no idea how to use “Main Panel” of Photoshop “, concept of layer at first, the brushes and tools what they can do. Anyway there are many tutorials on the WWW for our practising.

Nowadays, "Too Simple" is not quite standard in design. So that I have a need to spend and take more time to learn Photoshop such as animation, photo effect, text effect, button, photo retouch. Furthermore, I would like to learn how to apply the cross processing film developing

technique/effect to the image, learn a method for putting on a vintage photography effect on images, how to add a surreal stream of light to make your photos truly unique and eye grabbing, and even use the Tilt Shift photography technique to the image.
