The year will be divided into thematic units that will correlate with the English Language Arts curriculum. Students will read literary and informational text by participating in whole-class and independent reading assignments; learn and apply reading strategies; create projects; and complete a variety of assessments.STUDENT AGENDA: Students are expected to have their agenda in class every day. The agenda is a great place to record assignments and upcoming assessments. It is also the student’s pass out of class. Every student was given an agenda at the beginning of the year. It costs $10 to replace it.TEXT AND RESOURCES: Students will read a variety of short stories, novels, informational texts, and articles to coincide with the strategies presented in their ELA class.CLASSROOM MATERIALS: All students need a 1-inch binder with pockets, dividers, notebook paper, 1 bound notebook (not spiral), pencils/pens, and a highlighter. Class donations of tissue, hand sanitizer, and band-aids would be appreciated. Please see the class blog (fauls.) for a detailed supply list. These assignments will be checked for completion and noted in the gradebook as pass/fail so that you can be aware if your child is completing the necessary assignments needed to prepare for the assessments. Key: 1=pass, 0=fail Assignments may also be noted as late, missing, or exempt.Homework will be strongly encouraged as a means of practicing?newly taught skills, reviewing previously mastered skills, developing independent study habits, or to extend and enrich the curriculum.? Completing homework is also strongly encouraged as a means of preparing for class discussions, class work, quizzes, and tests. Some students may need more preparation than others, and some assignments may be noted as required and will be expected to be completed by all students.Progress Reports go home after 4 ? weeks on September 6. Quarter 1 Report Cards will be given to you during our parent conference in October.
