US News and World Report recently released the 2018 Best National Universities. Its purpose is to rank the more than 1,600 four-year colleges and universities in the country. Analysis
? Of the categories and indicators provided, the Graduation Rate Performance appears to have the most influence on the overall results. US News examines the six-year graduation rates of the three most recent first-time, full-time bachelor degree seeking first years. This average is compared to a projected six-year graduation rate that US News determines using internal regression analysis. Pace's actual graduation rate exceeded the projected six-year graduate rate (58% vs 55%) a difference of plus 3. The difference in 2017 was minus 5 (52% vs 57%).
? Within the category of Retention and Graduation, the first year retention rate remained the same while the actual graduation rate increased. These are three year averages.
? Of the indicators within Student Selectivity, the acceptance rate remained the same, while the percentage of first year students who were within the top ten percent of their high school class decreased. Also within Student Selectivity, the range of SAT/ACT scores remained the same as did the percent of classes with fewer than 20 students.
? Undergraduate Reputation category saw an increase in Pace's Peer Assessment Score, and a decline in High School Counselor Peer Assessment Score. Alumni Giving went down by one percentage point to 4%.
