PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – The PGA Foundation has been named the recipient of more than $288,000 as a result of donations from the ClubCorp Charity Classic, a nationwide one-day charity golf event celebrating the corporation‘s 50 years of service.

The ClubCorp Charity Classic, conducted last October 19, at more than 150 golf and country clubs nationwide, involved more than 15,000 players for golf and tennis tournaments, a variety of fitness activities, dinners, an online and live auctions all designed to raise funds for charity. The event resulted in donations of more than $1.4 million.

The PGA Foundation received 20 percent of the net funds, and was joined by three other recipients – the Muscular Dystrophy Association Augie’s Quest – targeted for finding a cure for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”), which received 40 percent of the funds; the Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, which received 20 percent of the funds; and ClubCorp’s Employee Partners Care Foundation, which received 20 percent of the funds to assist ClubCorp employees and their families by providing financial assistance in times of crisis.

“The PGA of America is most grateful of the generosity of ClubCorp members nationwide that has resulted in donations to benefit the PGA Foundation, which was one of four recipients of the ClubCorp Charity Classic,” said PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb. “We believe that golfers nationwide can identify with the mission of the PGA Foundation to grow the game of golf by reaching out to people throughout our society.”

"I am so proud of our clubs, our employee partners, and our members for how they came together to provide extraordinary and unique experiences for those in their communities while also raising money for four very worthy causes.”
