CURRICULUM VITAEDR. ROBERT J. FEIBEL As a specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery, my practice spectrum is broad but focuses mainly on hip and knee replacement surgery. I welcome the opportunity to enhance my patient’s function and life enjoyment through orthopaedic surgery in a professional, ethical and compassionate environment. My subspecialty interest in bone lengthening and regeneration allows me to care for patients referred with serious conditions such as bone infection, bone loss and post-traumatic deformity. My extensive experience in Ilizarov technique has allowed me the opportunity to educate resident trainees in Ottawa, other centres in Canada and abroad. I have been able to balance my home and work life. Within my career I have been able to balance clinical, research and teaching committments with reasonably good success.Updated 2016 Jan 5SUMMARYName Dr. Robert J. Traditionally, PGY-5 orthopaedic surgery residents meet attending surgeons 3-4 times per week for 1 hour practice oral exam sessions. Cancelled sessions are often difficult to reschedule. Twenty years ago, in Ottawa, 3-4 residents would receive one case each per session. Currently, there are at least 6 residents in our program and much of the session involves 5 residents siting passively while one resident works through a case.I developed a “Royal College Orthopaedic Review Weekend Boot Camp” whereby PGY-5 residents receive three 90 minute Royal College examinations simulations. After the each examination is completed, the cases are shown with the surgical treatment for general discussion. Each of the 3 exams had a different focus: hip and arthrotplasty; knee and tibia; upper extremity. I also arranged for a “Guest Examiner/Discussant” who this year was Dr. A.A. Giachino. Dr. Giachino received the Order of Canada for his volunteerism and his committment to surgical education overseas. This weekend course, new in 2013 will continue next year.
