COMPILATION OF BEST PRACTICES:

IMPLEMENTATION OF ARTICLES 11,19 AND 24 OF

THE CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

(Updated 31 August 2010)

This compilation of best practices undertaken in the implementation of the Article 11, 19 and 24 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is based upon data available to the Secretariat for the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as of 30 August 2010.

The data was gathered from the information received from the States Parties and the Signatories to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in response to the request by the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on 21 July, 2010 to provide inputs on the best practices on the implementation of Article 11, 19 and 24 of the Convention.

Submissions were received from the following seventeen countries – Belgium, Canada, Chile, Côte d'Ivoire, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Mauritius, Nicaragua, Peru, Republic of Korea (ROK), Slovenia, Thailand, Tunisia, Uganda, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and United Kingdom (UK) – and one regional integration organization, the European Union (EU).

The Compilation has three parts: Part I contains best practices reported on Article 11: Situations of Risk and Humanitarian Emergencies, Part II collected best practices on Article 19: Living Independently and Being Included in the Community and Part III contains best practices collated on Article 24: Education.
