For Immediate Release Contact: Kevin BonderudNovember 12, 2009 (202) 546-8754 kevin.bonderud@ACAP Members Ranked as Nation’s Best Health PlansThe high quality of six members of the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) was recognized today as they were named “America’s Best Health Insurance Plans” in a prominent annual ranking done by U.S. News & World Report and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).Among Medicaid-focused plans, the ACAP members earning the highest rankings were:Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan (ranked 2nd)Neighborhood Health Plan in Massachusetts (4th)Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island (7th)Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, operated in partnership with Monroe Plan for Medical Care in Rochester, NY (9th) UPMC Health Plan in Pennsylvania (15th)AmeriHealth Mercy Health Plan in Pennsylvania (25th)The ratings are based on an analysis of the quality of clinical care, member satisfaction, and prevention programs. The two Massachusetts plans were named to the “Honor Roll” of best plans for being in the top five plans in the country. “We congratulate these ACAP members for the recognition they deserve as health plans that provide outstanding quality programs and services,” said Margaret A. Murray, ACAP’s CEO. “This year’s rankings underscore that community-based, non-profit plans remain in the forefront of delivering excellence to the populations we serve.”The U.S. News/NCQA rankings are listed online today (healthplans) and will be featured in the December 1 print edition of U.S. News & World Report. Plans are ranked in three categories: commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare.
