JMIC Media ReleaseMay 17, 2017Ray Bloom Named Recipient of 2017 JMIC Unity AwardJoint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) President Joachim K?nig has announced the winner of the 2017 JMIC Unity Award as Ray Bloom, Chairman of the IMEX Group. Bloom formally received the award at the IMEX Awards Banquet in Frankfurt, Germany, on May 21.“This award is in fact long overdue”, said K?nig. “Ray is a very modest guy, and doesn’t like a lot of personal attention – to the extent that I think we have allowed ourselves to be remiss in underlining just how important he has been to the growth and unity of the industry. Over many years he has developed and maintained forums for industry and government interface, created a wide range of key educational and communications opportunities for industry members and supported the industry’s own initiatives to an extent that went far beyond what might have been expected from any one individual. It is therefore high time that we as JMIC formally recognized that commitment and dedication and we are very pleased to be doing so tonight.” The Unity Award is made annually to an individual who represents the best qualities of Meetings Industry Leadership and who has devoted major efforts to creating stronger relationships and a greater cohesion for the industry. Award criteria evaluate industry leadership and initiative both in a candidate's own professional conduct and the efforts they put into industry-building through association, education and professional development activities. The Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) is an organization that represents the combined interests of 15 international Meetings Industry associations. It has provided a forum for information exchange and recognition amongst industry groups for over 50 years and has recently become more engaged in the process of documenting and communicating the diverse values of the industry to broader community and governmental audiences. The active member associations who comprise JMIC today are:AACVB, the Asian Association of Convention and Visitor BureausAIPC, the International Association of Convention CentresASAE, the American Society of Association ExecutivesCocal, the Latin American Confederation of PCO and Related CompaniesDMAI, Destination Marketing Association InternationalECM, European Cities MarketingEVVC, European Association of Event CentresIAPCO, the International Association of Professional Congress OrganizersICCA, the International Congress and Convention AssociationICESAP, the Incentive, Conference & Event Society Asia PacificMPI, Meeting Professionals InternationalPCMA,?the Professional Convention Management AssociationSITE, Society for Incentive Travel ExcellenceUFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition IndustryUIA, the Union of International AssociationsJMIC Secretariat Tel [32] 496 235327jmic@ ................
