A BEAUTIFUL STORY WITH A HAPPY ENDING

Quest through Diocesan website

Our Communications department received last week this first email:

I believe that one of your older members from your congregation may remember the O'Sullivan Family. Yes, this has been awhile ago, as this was their son:

In memory of Flight Lieutenant ROBERT JOSEPH O'SULLIVAN who died on March 10, 1945

Military Service Number: J/27021 - Age: 25 - Force: Air Force - Unit: Royal Canadian Air Force - Division: 107 (R.A.F.) Sqdn

Additional Information: Son of Arthur W. and Cecile A. O'Sullivan, of Valleyfield, Province of Quebec, Canada.

They may had, had a relative named Rev. Oswald O'Sullivan and maybe a relative named of Rev. Sister Mary Eugenius. What I do know is Robert "Bob" had a brother named Arthur. Please if you know any family members have them please contact me here in Burbank, CA.,USA so I can return Bob's RCAF wings back to the family.

BTW: Bob went to school at D'Arcy McGee School in Montreal where he stayed at his aunts home for his schooling.

I was going through the affects of my dist. Cousin Marguerite M.H. Naylor-McDonald, Bob before going overseas gave his wings to her. Now they have come into my possession and I think that it is time that they go to his relatives, as 63 years is too long.

May God Bless,

Margaret Clare Stephens

Suzanne’s answer (Secretary for Communications)

We will do our best to find a relative of this family. My first move will be to contact, Mr. Louis-Arthur Sullivan - a man living in my surrounding - he might have some information.

Best regards,

Suzanne Crête

And Communications department received a 2nd email the day after :

That may be a good clue. I find Louis Arthur O'Sullivan listed, in the article I found on the net.

[Gleaner Extracts 1945].

05-08-1945 Mrs. John H. O'Sullivan, (Denise Daignault), died at Montreal Québec, in her 86th year. Funeral services at the Valleyfield Cathedral, burial and Valleyfield Québec. Left to mourn, two sons, Arthur and Louis O'Sullivan, and stepson, John A. Sullivan, four daughter's, Adrianne, Cecile and Beatrice O'Sullivan, and Rev. Sister Stephen Mary, a stepdaughter, Rev. Sister Mary Eugenius, four grandsons, Rev. Oswald Sullivan, Louis Arthur O'Sullivan, Gerald and John H. Sullivan. Funeral service was held at the Cathedral, and Requiem Mass was chanted by her grandson, Rev. Oswald O'Sullivan.

So Arthur the brother of Robert "Bob" may be the Uncle of Louis Arthur O'Sullivan. God sent me to you and my prayers were answered when I asked for help. Can you imagine, this family does not even know I have the wings. If Louis Arthur is kin, may there be a way for me to send them to you and maybe the Church can give them to him. Maybe the family thought that when he got shot down he probably was wearing the wings. 63 years later for, they now can to fly home back to the family.

May God Bless you, as your devotion in helping others is really a Gift,

Margaret Stephens

Suzanne’s answer :

I left your email at Mr. L.A. Sullivan's box mail yesterday. Since his box mail is far from house, he might only get it today after the mailman will have dropped some mail. We will wait reaction from him.

But I also forwarded your email to my neighbor who has a large knowledge of the English community, about history, genealogy and also about War history. His name is Dorland Hannah so if you ever got an email from him... you can trust him.

So, we are working on this case...

We will let you know when we will have news.

God bless you!

Meanwhile, Mrs. Stephens phoned to the Diocesan Center to thank Suzanne for helping.

And the last email received the 3rd day from Mrs. Stephens:

He called, I can not believe it. It was Arthur the brother of Robert O'Sullivan the man who died in the RCAF. You are an angel for finding him...Now Robert's wings can fly home.

May God Bless you,

Margaret Stephens
