World Religions/Empires Children’s Story Project

World Religions/Empires Children’s Story Project Due Sept 28st or 29th

1. AP Key Concept 2.1. The Development and Codification of Religious and Cultural Traditions

2. AP Key Concept 2.2. The Development of States and Empires

For this assignment you will create a children’s book that tells the story of either one of the great religions (Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam) or empires (Alexander the Great, Rome, Han China, Mauryan/Gupta India, Islamic Caliphates, and Mongols). As the author of a children’s book you must focus on the “big picture” and not the minute details of the religion or empire. The history of your religion or empire must be told as a story and not a summary of facts. Your text should be simple and accompanied by visuals (pictures, maps). You may do a paper version of your story, or you may try to tell your story digitally using software programs like Powerpoint, Prezi or Sway. In addition to your story, your group must post Cornell Notes to the collaboration space in OneNote which cover the following points:

Religion (see Ch. 7 of The Human Story in addition to using your textbook)

Where? When? Why? And by whom was your religion started?

What are the key concepts, religious centers, beliefs and terms (ex. Reincarnation, nirvana, monotheistic, caste, Mecca…) for your religion?

How did the religion spread and where is your religion practiced today?

Empires (see Ch. 6 of The Human Story in addition to using your textbook, note the Han and Mauryan/Gupta Empires are not in The Human Story)

When? What was the motive behind their expansion?

How did they conquer so many people?

How did they rule/treat the people they conquered? Why?

What lands did they conquer? What did they bring to the lands they conquered (positive and negative)?

Why did their empires collapse?

Any key terminology.

Due Date September 28st (A) or 29th (B). You must be prepared on the date below or you will receive a zero. This assignment is worth 5 grades. ***Extra credit will be awarded to the groups or individuals with the best projects***
