Dad, WARNO to follow

WARNO:

1. SITUTATION: During the past fifteen to twenty years members of the military community, family members, and friends have descended on various military reservations to participate in traditional hunts focused on fun and enjoying the outdoors. As it has been for the past eleven years, our 2012 Army Alumni Hunt will take place at beautiful FT Benning, GA.; home of the best Infantry in the world.

a. ENEMY FORCES: The recent transition of the Armor Center from FT Knox, KY., to FT Bennin g, GA., has restricted the overall availability of hunting areas and key habitat for pigs and deer. Due to more intense training, the deer and hogs have transitioned to areas with thicker vegetation. Hunting animals in this terrain will require superior coordination, mass drives, and synchronized interdiction. To our advantage, this adjustment in overall animals’ patterns supports our style and tactics for hunting. Additionally, our extensive experience and superior knowledge of the terrain gives us a key advantage in engaging the enemy on our terms at a place and time of our choosing.

b. ATTACHMENTS AND DETACHMENTS: We anticipate 15-20 hunters and attachments will participate in this year’s operation. For clarification, “attachments” are identified as anyone who has not participated in one of our hog hunts and therefore is not fully “hog qualified”. Attachments will be identified as “probationary piglets” or “PP’s”, and remain on provisional status for one year until vetted for future hunts…achieving the coveted “hog” status. The main effort of the hunt will not be delayed due to new attachment lack of physical fitness or poor sportsmanship. Poor sportsmanship is defined as crying and sniveling because you have not shot anything. Everyone will be given an equal opportunity to harvest game. If you are under 50 years of age, you will be expected to show up in adequate physical condition to walk up to 7-10 miles a day, over sometimes rugged and thick terrain. Exceptions will be granted for older, more experienced alumni or those having physical disabilities. If you are not doing so already, start walking on a daily basis to build your cardio and endurance. Being in shape will make your hunt more enjoyable and help prevent injuries. Safety is the rule. Violations will result in immediate removal from the hunt. If you are a safety violation and do not adhere to the instructions of the hunt commander, operations officer, or team leader, you may be subject to dismissal from the group. The hunter sponsor for attachments will be responsible for everything regarding said attachment, to include licensing, packing list, SAFETY, travel, food, feeding, hugging, etc. Always remember the overall intent is to conduct a safe hunt while fostering friendship and family bonds.

2. MISSION: HOG HUNTERS INC CONDUCTS ANNUAL HUNT VIC FT BENNING, GA. NLT 2 JAN 2012 THROUGH 9 JAN 2012 IOT FOSTER LIFE LONG RELATIONSHIPS WHILE HAVING A GOOD TIME AND SAFELY HARVESTING ANIMALS

3. EXECUTION:

a. CONCEPT OF THE OPERATION: Given three teams of highly lethal and somewhat demented hunters, conduct “Search and Destroy” operations during A 5-DAY period (three days on the Benning side and two on the Alabama side) in vicinity of FT Benning using dismounted hunters to penetrate hog and deer habitat. Decisive to these operations will be all hunters having the appropriate licensing and equipment as well as hunting in a safe manner. The end-state for all hunters is to have an enjoyable SAFE hunt and go home with great memories and meat for the freezer.

(1) MANEUVER: All hunters will check in NLT then evening of the 2nd of JAN 2012. WARNING: If arriving late, the total lodging fee is still required to be paid; costs will be shared equally among all hunters. This is the only way we can plan for the hunt effectively and ensure everyone is taken care of and do not have to take on the extra burden for someone in a lodge that may only stay two days and does not to pay the full price. You will find that for the accommodations the cost you pay for a week’s worth of lodging is VERY low; somewhere between 100 and 130 dollars for the whole week per person for a lodge with six people in it. If you can beat this price and experience with free guide service, then I wish you the best of luck. If not in agreement, you are free to make your own lodging arrangements; however, you will not find a lower price for five days of lodging and miss out on the comradeship and fun.

(2) After arrival, move to you chalet of assignment, which are TBD. The hunt commander Victor “The Pig Assassin” Satterlund, will send out a list of lodge assignments once we have confirmation of all in attendance. Once arriving on station all hunters will be broken down into two or three teams. Team leaders will be assigned IOT ensure accountability and equipment/safety checks prior to each hunt. All Hunters will arrive on the evening of 2 JAN in order to settle in and have a full day for administration. The 3rd will be our admin day to shop at the commissary, ensure all licensing is secured and if necessary double check zero on weapon systems.

(3) Specific missions will be determined during the pre-hunt recon conducted by the hunt commander and me. All hunters accounted for will begin hunting on the 4th of JAN 2010. We will depart for hunting each day one hour prior to BMNT. Each person/lodge is responsible for purchasing and preparing their food and drinks, at cost to either themselves or through an agreement amongst the people in the lodge.

(4) At a minimum, each hunt leader will conduct a daily morning PCI of each individual to validate they have the proper documentation (state hunting and big game license, hunter’s safety card, valid FT Benning hunting pass, legal orange safely clothing, unloaded and cased weapons, and car hunting pass displayed in the windshield of the vehicle they are traveling in). Pay special attention to attachment personnel. This is not to make anyone feel like they are being singled out, but to confirm we do not lose our hunting privileges on Fort Benning.

(5) We will attempt to do three to four drives a day. Check with your team leader for areas we will hunt and telephone check-in/out procedures. Each evening after dinner, we will notify team leader of the areas we will hunt the following day each. On the days we only conduct three hunts, we will stand-hunt either in the morning or the evening; hunters choice. This operational set will be maintained throughout the hunt.

(6) Safety comment: Weapons will not be loaded until the hunter is safely away from vehicles and off the road. Conversely, when returning from a hunt, weapons will be unloaded off the road, before returning to the vehicle. Keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction at all times. You will be hunting around combat veterans; they do not like weapons being pointed at them. Never shoot without being 100 percent sure of your target and what is behind it. If you are not sure, DO NOT SHOOT!!! Violation will result in immediate dismissal, no exceptions.

D. TASK TO MANEUVER UNITS:

a. All hunters must bring hunters safety cards. In addition to a rifle, recommend bringing a shotgun capable of shooting slugs, accurately. Key to success this year will be the proper application of weapons. This hunt is not an event to experiment with exotic or weak caliber weapons. Shot placement using an effective caliber for deer and hogs will ensure a humane harvest and greatly reduce the necessity for tracking. Rifles need to be 30-30 caliber or larger; no 243 or 223. All hunters must be wearing an orange hat and vest at all times during hunts…cannot be an orange camouflage mix, must be pure orange. We hunt through various types of terrain on Benning. Most shooting occurs at less than 75 yards. However at times you may need to shoot out to 200 yards. If you have the ability to bring a gun for short ranges and thick brush as well as one scoped weapon for shooting at distance, this would be the preferred course of action to take.

b. All hunters will RSVP to Dad (Skip) NLT 15 NOV that they and whomever they are bringing will attend the hunt. This will allow us to plan the team assignments and cabin assignments. This will also be the cut off date for adding new hunters to the hunt. All exceptions will have to go through Dad or me for approval. This will prevent unrecoverable costs.

c. Hunters will submit a full, non-refundable, payment mailed to my Dad NLT 15 NOV 2011 (Victor Satterlund, 55 Springwater Chase, Newnan, GA 30265). Cost per hunter TBD. The reason for the non-refundable payment is to cover the deposit on three chalets as well as any additional fees. Absolutely NO money is taken for personal gain or benefit during this hunt. Whatever money revived is used purely to take care of operating cost and given directly back to you, the guest hunters.

e. COORDINATING INSTRUCTIONS:

(1) A packing list will follow this e-mail in about a month as a guideline for planning. You can also visit the website at for updates, regulations, maps, guidelines, etc.

(2) Make sure you come up on the net at least once every three weeks between now and the hunt to gain information about the hunt and any changes -No bitching about driving or standing, we will alternate and take age and health into consideration at all times. No one is intentionally put in a bad spot; be a team player.

(3) We will hunt the GA side for three days and the Alabama side for two days.

(4) Bring your hunters safety card, a hard copy! You will not be able to hunt without it.

4. SERVICE AND SUPPORT:

a. TRANSPORTATION: Each group or individual is responsible for their own transportation. Work that out internal to your cabin. If WX gets bad you will need a 4x4. No ATV’s are allowed on FT Benning. If you are not a military or government employee with a vehicle sticker, you will need a pass to get on post; this will take time at the front gate, so factor into your travel time. Make sure you bring your current registration, driver’s license, and proof of insurance.

b. SERVICES: There is a site very close to the chalets to clean your animals, free of charge, with water and devices for hanging game. See Jay Lee and crew for a very cool way to de-bone and remove hind quarters and back straps…without having to dress your deer; you have to see it to believe it. Recommend you think through how you will transport your meat back to your point of origin; cooler space, time of travel etc. There are butchers that will cut and wrap your meat for you but this takes time and may not be ready before you leave.

c. MEDICAL: Bring whatever medical supplies you think you will need. There is a hospital in post for military only and one about 35-40 minutes away in downtown Columbus for additional support. As always, call 911. Stay in constant contact with your team leader.

d. CHALETS: Chalets must be cleaned and left in their original state before departure. Sweep the floors and empty the trash. There is a large trash bin on-site. Do not throw your pig and deer parts in the trash bin; it really disturbs the locals. Chalet leaders are responsible for making the final check and turning in the key to the Uchee Creek store prior to leaving. The lodge leader will also be responsible for ensuring the bill is settled for their lodge. I will take your pre-paid deposits and pay the bill for your lodge prior to your arrival. Whatever additional cost your lodge takes on during the week is your lodge’s responsibility.

5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL:

a. CHAIN OF COMMAND: Dad, Rich, Hunt Team Leaders. Dad is the Hunt commander for the Benning hunt which means he takes responsibility for all of us while on Benning. What he says goes. I will be Hunt Control Officer (basically everything Dad (Tactical Mastermind) does not want to do I will do…like a BN S-3…and issue hunt plan to the team leaders. Hunt Team Leaders will assist in positioning hunters in stand locations and are responsible for making sure all drives stay on line, going the right direction, stop at the right point, and are conducting the hunt in a safe manner. Bring radios for communication and a GPS if you have one. Buy a current year’s map at Uchee Creek or Outdoor Recreational Services (they always have changes, especially this year with the additional of tank ranges on FT Benning). Bring a plastic pouch to protect your map and other valuable items from moisture. ASK questions if you don’t understand an instruction or are concerned about the movement of the drive. Drivers will MAKE NOISE as necessary to stay on line. This is the only means we have to keep drivers on-line. If you remain silent, you are endangering not only yourself, but all the other hunters. One incident and we’re finished for good. Police your fellow hunters. If someone is not sounding off, handle it, or tell one of the leaders and they will take care of it. Silent drives, if conducted, will be precise and very well coordinated. We will tell you if a drive is silent; otherwise, always assume you need to let everyone know your location during the drive. Standers are always silent. As a rule, when drivers see standers OR standers see drivers…CEASE FIRE, the drive is over. Safety is the responsibility of everyone. We will reinforce rules during the safety briefing.

b. A recommended packing list is at You can buy your license on line. Fort Benning permits must be purchased at Uchee Creek or the Fort Benning Outdoor Recreation Center. Dad send a previous e-mail to all potential hunters with the web sites you can purchase your licenses at as well as key dates and times, please follow this and ask question if you have them. Dad will post anticipated costs to the website. You will need a Georgia hunting license, a big game tag, and a Fort Benning permit. Georgia sells a three day and one day.

c. This year we plan to do alumni hunt dinner at Uchee Creek the afternoon of the 3rd, so please try and have your admin tasks complete prior to 1530 as we will look to have a catered BBQ dinner at 1630. We are looking to expand a little this year with the dinner, purchasing T-shirts. and possibly engraved glass mugs as well. There is a small additional cost for these items.

d. Please speak to your friends up front and ask the hard questions about coming. Feel free to e-mail me direct with any questions at rich.satterlund@

I look forward to seeing you all at the hunt making more great memories. Have a good trip and KILL PIG!!!

Respectfully,

Rich

Hunt Control Officer
