Cross Country Project

Project Due: 7-10 Days

You and your partner(s) sell travel planning. Your assignment is to plan, in detail, a cross country road trip. You will be competing for clients business.

Budget: $10,000

Time: No more than 45 days—No less than 25

Transportation: Renting a car—or can travel by train, bus, boat, taxi—no planes (except to fly home after trip if necessary)

Travel Restrictions: Starting point on East or West coast state, trip must go to the other coast. No more than 500 miles travel per day by car. As long as you cross the country, you can end trip at any point—just include flight home in expense

Here are some things to include:

• Map—a map of a starting point, midpoints and endpoints.

• Itinerary: Dates/Daily breakdown of: What you are doing/seeing/tours/events in detail—i.e. Grand Canyon 8-11a.m.—On the back of a donkey, you’ll see the big hole in the earth that is the Grand Canyon –or i.e. Traveling from Columbia to Washington, DC (490 miles-8 hours)—Staying at the Best Western of DC—use the websites below as good examples

o Travel Days must include—Starting Point, finishing point, accommodations, and meals—i.e. arrive in DC, Breakfast/Lunch on road

o Destination Days must include—Accommodations, activities/events, Meals---minimum of 15 Destination days—no max

• Create a website or a PowerPoint about the cross country trip you plan. Include a minimum of 25 pictures. You will do a brief 5-7 minuet presentation to the class.

• Expenses breakdown—you can include this in your presentation—but you must have a page designated for expenses only

o Food: Detailed breakdown of places food during destination days/general breakdown of food budget on travel days

o Gas: Assume 20 MPG, $3.50 per gallon—if trip was 2,500 miles—2500/20=125 gallons of gas—125X$3.50=$4,37.50—cost of gas

o Lodging: Real prices—no minimum or max

o Ticket prices for events, tours, parks or alternative travel

• expenses breakdown—you can include this in your presentation—but you must have a page designated for expenses only—20pts

• Food: minimum of $5 per meal per person—Dine out meal $11 minimum. Budget package: $10 per person per day minimum—5pts
