Poplar Grove Speedway Track Rules

1. No rain dates will be held (unless stated).

2. Unsportsmanlike conduct, arguing with track officials or other person, driving in pit area, intentional rough driving or reckless driving or fighting etc. will not be tolerated!

a. First Violation: Verbal warning

b. Second Violation: Disqualification for the day and probation

c. Third Violation: Barred for the remainder of the race season

3. Any kart known to be illegal by owner or driver, i.e. weight, driver’s age, engine modification ect cannot and will not be raced in competition.

4. The flagman will have full control of all the races.

5. No driver, kart owner, or mechanic shall have any claim for damages, expenses or otherwise against Poplar Grove Speedway and the like of its officials be reason for disqualification or damage to either kart or driver or both, and they agree the track is in safe condition if they take part in the racing activities.

Safety Rules

6. No racing or driving in the pit areas. Engines are to be started at the line up area before races and shut off at the scale. After weighing, karts are to be pushed. This includes going to the tech area. Engines started in the pit area must be on a kart stand or have a person setting in the seat to control it but may not be driven in the pit area.

7. No karts or persons shall cross the track while a race is in process.

8. All karts can be safety checked (inspected) by the safety inspector at a pre-designated area prior to racing the first day entered. The officials may check any kart at any time for safety reasons.

9. In case of an accident, only the track EMT’s, track officials and parents of the driver shall go near the accident until the all clear is given to move either the kart of driver by the officials.

10. No kart or driver shall finish a race if they flip or roll during a race. The driver will be checked by the track’s EMT’s and the kart by the safety officials before entering the next race for the day.

11. No karts will be on the track prior to the races or after the race program is complete unless given permission by the track owner. All drivers must have a driver’s pass purchased for the day and have all required safety equipment on.

Points and Line-up

12. Any driver signing in after 5:30 on Saturdays or 12:30 on Sundays shall start in the back of both heat races.

13. All drivers age 5 through 16 shall provide Poplar Grove Speedway with a copy of their birth certificates to verify their age. The certificate must be on file with Poplar Grove Speedway prior to racing.

14. Anyone under 18 must sign a minor waiver.

15. If you are disqualified in a heat or feature race, you will not receive points for that race. If you refuse to weigh, you will be disqualified for that race. If you do not pass in the tech area, you will have all points for that day taken away. Race officials have the final say for disqualification.

16. Season championship features will be a 20 lap race except Junior I which will be 15 laps.

17. Any driver jumping the start twice will go to the rear when told to do so by the flagman. If kart receives a lapped flag they must exit the track immediately.

18. Once a race has completed one lap, changing karts will not be permitted. All points earned stay with the driver.

19. No rough driving! Penalty for deliberate blocking or bumping is disqualification for the day. All passing will be done cleanly. Keep it safe!

20. The track will run under the no fault rule unless rule #21 applies, i.e. position will be maintained if two or more kart are involved in a spinout. The track officials and scorers will decide if this rule applies when necessary.

21. A single kart spinout will be allowed to restart in the rear of the field.

22. NO working on karts on the track or during the race. This includes refueling, tire changes, ect.(excludes equipment torn, loss and/or deemed unsafe). You may put the chain back on only once during a race.

23. All karts must complete one lap accident free or complete restart.

24. All four wheels off the track-do not pull back onto the track until instructed to do so by an official. A yellow or red flag will be given each time a kart leaves the track or there is an accident. Kart will then go to the back of the line-up unless rule numbers 20 or 21 apply.

25. No racing or passing under the yellow flag. Slow down. Get into position for restart. All karts must stop immediately when given a red flag.

26. All Karts must weigh after each race. No one shall touch any driver/kart being weighed. No one is to touch the scales during weighing except the scale operator. Failure to weigh after each race is an automatic disqualification.

27. You must have raced in one races prior to season championships to enter the season championships for trophy placement. Only regular races conducted by the Association and run at Poplar Grove Speedway will count towards this requirement for all classes.

Technical Rules

28. All classes will be teched accordingly to IFK specifications. The number of participants and classes to be teched will be determined by the tech committee on each race date.

29. Only tech personal and owner/driver shall be in tech area.

30. Any driver, owner or parent who declines to be teched shall receive no points or trophy for the day. Failure to do directly to the tech area after weighing shall be considered as a refusal to be teched. A second refusal during the season will be cause for disqualification from the next race date actually run. You have 30 seconds to make a decision.

31. The tech committee will be checking fuel and oil on a random basis during tech. Anyone entering a kart that is found to be using illegal fuel, oil or additives will be disqualification for the day on the first offense and upon second offense will be barred for the rest of the season.

32. NKA competition rules and regulations in the 2020 book will be followed.

33. All participants will be expected to help maintain the track, pit area and spectator area, i.e. set up, cleaning and other jobs necessary to keep the event running smoothly and safely. Your help will stop unnecessary delays.

34. Everyone is welcome to participate. Please remember we race for fun with safety as our main concern.

35. Do not dump oil or fuel on the ground. Place in proper containers that will be provided. Any dumping of such waste on the ground will be cause for disqualification.

36. If three or less karts are entered in a class, only one trophy may be awarded in that class. Four or more karts entered will result in three trophies to be awarded.

37. NO protest tech.

38. WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO ANYONE. IKF and Poplar Grove Speedway rules are used to keep you safe and competitive. These rules will be followed to the best of our abilities. If you feel you have been treated unfairly please feel free to talk to Tim Mortenson.

Each class will be run under the time limits as set forth, unless flagman states differently.

Heats: 15 minutes for regular track race

Features: 20 Minutes for regular track race

All rules not covered are as per IKF Speedway Dirt Division-refer to sections 100, 400, 600, & 700 of the IKF 2018 Competition Regulations and Technical Manual.
