POSITION DESCRIPTIONTechnical Officer – Regional Education (Environment Programs)We are looking for employees of integrity, who are exceptionally high performers and can work collaboratively towards the achievement of our 2020 Vision of being‘an Institute, Workplace and Partner of Choice’ABOUT THE ROLEOverviewThis position is accountable for providing technical support, advice and recommendations to ensure the effective operations of the broad spectrum of Horticulture programs that sit in Regional Education, including Skills First, Fee for Service and Short Courses primarily at the Cranbourne campus.The position is expected to ensure the appropriate allocation of materials and resources to support the delivery of programs, drawing upon qualifications, knowledge and experience gained from the broad horticulture industry, its processes and practices.The incumbent is a key and active participant of the Regional Education team, and will also assist in the promotion of regular Regional Education programs ensuring that customer service standards are maintained. A key deliverable of this role is to oversee issues relating to OH&S for areas within Regional Education’s Horticulture delivery and respond to the procedures identified within government regulations.The Technical Officer also supports and facilitates safe workshop access and use for students and staff.Technical Officers are expected to liaise on a regular basis with the other technicians across the business area, both on and across campus, to maintain standards and consistency of system operations.Key AccountabilitiesResource ManagementSupport the diverse demands for preparatory procedures and practices for government funded and fee for service courses in the horticulture areaEnsure the appropriate allocation of materials and resources to support delivery of programs within the specific industry areas.Undertake ordering of supplies and equipment in a timely manner using the Institute’s procurement policies and maintain stock control of such anise the repair of equipment to ensure the efficient operation of the full range of departmental equipment and resources and maintaining systems and records that are in compliance with auditing regulations.Undertake the daily operations and maintenance of Chisholm’s Horticulture outdoor learning spaces including production Nursery facility.Assist with daily operation of Chisholm’s precision growing controlled environment facilitySupport for Educational ExcellenceProvide general assistance in the maintenance and setting up for classroom outdoor classroom activities all horticulture programs.Provide technical support in the promotion of regular Regional Education activities, events and exhibitions, internal and external to the institute.Provide support, advice and recommendations to ensure the effective operations of the programs, including Fee for Service and short working with internal and external staff, suppliers and agents in order to maintain the fluency of program delivery.Support teaching staff Respond to others duties that may be identified by the Manager that relate to the business needs of programs and the work plianceEnsuring correct Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) practices and procedures are maintained in accordance to legislation.Liaise with the OH&S representative for the Regional Education area and respond to the procedures set out within Institute and government guidelines.Attend departmental meetings to advice on technical operations and liaise with other technicians in order to maintain quality service and safety standards.Ensuring that the area procedures comply with statutory requirements under the ‘Handling and Storage of Dangerous Goods’ legislation.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical applications in the Horticulture industry and OH&S legislation.Business GrowthSupport the business growth objectives of Regional Education aligned with Chisholm Strategy.Responding to peak periods of activity associated with enrolment/ assessment and promotional deadlines.Support the development of projection work for promotion of marketing events.People and Team Ensure portfolio and individual plans align with Institute plans.Maintain a safe, positive and productive work environment free from discrimination, bullying and harassment.Promote the Vision and goals of the organisation both internally and externally, with professionalism and enthusiasm.Encourage and lead staff to undertake relevant professional development.ABOUT USChisholm is Victoria’s premier public vocational education and training provider, with campuses located across Melbourne and the south east.Each year, we welcome some 30,000 students from over 43 culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
