Lonely Planet

Dear Booksellers,With 2017 wrapping up, it’s time to look ahead to 2018—and who better to guide you into the New Year than Lonely Planet, the world’s #1 travel publisher? So settle in with your new Lonely Planet catalog, and let us show you the most exciting books 2018 has to offer!Let’s start at the very beginning… on page one we’re serving up Ultimate Eats, the follow-up to our massively successful Ultimate Travel (pg 55). Ultimate Eats puts a delicious spin on the travel bucket list—we’ve ranked the top 500 food experiences from around the world, creating the definitive must-taste list. Other tasty offerings can be found on pages 15-16 of your catalog, including Lonely Planet’s Global Coffee Tour, an around-the-world exploration of our favorite morning beverage.Begrudgingly, we must admit that not every moment of travel can be devoted to the culinary arts, so of course, we have a whole slew of titles that encompass every aspect of travel, from inspiration to planning to packing. On pages 2-3, we introduce the Experience Guides. In Experience Italy and Experience USA, our guidebook publishers have created a new way to get to the heart of a place. These stunning hardcover pictorials give armchair travelers and experienced travelers alike a new, in-depth perspective on their ideal destinations. Once Experience USA has piqued your interest in the States, we have just the book to expand your exploration continent-wide! In Explore the Americas, we’ve found the 60 most exciting and diverse travel experiences from North, Central and South America. We’ve got fresh-air fiends covered with Epic Hikes of the World (pg 13), a companion to Epic Bike Rides and Epic Drives (pg 51). In Epic Hikes, we explore the best trails around the globe, from multi-day backpacking treks to short, urban jaunts. If traveling far and wide isn’t an option, Everyday Adventures (pg. 12) lets locals discover the wonders of travel in their own home-town. Other armchair titles for those who have already blown through their year’s vacation time by February 1st include Amazing Architecture (pg 9) and City Mazes, the perfect book for puzzle fans who love to travel (pg 8). And on page 11, we introduce our PhotoCity pictorials to London, Paris and New York. One photographer’s chronicle of a single day spent in an iconic city will be sure to inspire both art aficionados and travel lovers. Curious kids will love the new titles from Lonely Planet Kids. Three new titles in the First Words series (pg 20) will teach little linguists 100 words in Italian, Japanese and Mandarin. Brain Teasers (pg 21) will keep hands & minds occupied while on the road or stuck inside on a rainy day. My Vacation Scrapbook and My Vacation Drawing Book (pgs 24-25) are the perfect way to get kids away from their devices and involved in memorializing the latest family trip. Budding fashionistas will adore the Around the World Fashion Sketchbook (pg 23) and small scientists will love discovering the World’s Strangest series (pg 26) which ranks the world’s weirdest predators, creepiest crawlies and more! And last, but by no means least, we have some exciting news from our core publishing product—guidebooks! In 2018 we’re launching a new line of books dedicated to Cruise Ports (pg 7). Set sail to Alaska, the Caribbean and Scandinavia in these informative, easy-to-use guides to perfect days on shore. While we’re talking Scandinavia, don’t miss our new Pocket Guides to Copenhagen, Helsinki and Oslo (pg 31). On pg 36, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden get the full-sized guidebook treatment. And you’ll find more Nordic content throughout the catalog, including city maps on pg. 39 and Fast Talk language guides on pages 40-41. Of course, we cover so much more than Northern Europe—we have new editions of our bestselling guides to Thailand, New York City, Ireland, Vietnam and many more delightful locales. See pages 28-48 for a full list of new guidebooks, maps and language products coming this season. As always, we have a lot to say when it comes to travel! We hope you enjoy perusing your new catalog.
