By Allen Kenney
(May 27)--Donald Fandetti and Michael Bilerman of Citigroup Inc. claimed two of the top three spots for the real estate industry in The Wall Street Journal's annual Best on the Street rankings.
The WSJ's ratings were based on the performance of analysts' stock recommendations in 2008. The top performers benefited from their ratings on mortgage REITs. Fandetti, a mortgage REIT analyst with Citi, finished first in the rankings. Jason Arnold, a mortgage REIT specialist with RBC Capital Markets, was runner-up.
Bilerman, Citi's director of U.S. equity research, REITs, finished third. Bilerman took over the firm's equity REIT team in April 2008.
Two analysts from Green Street Advisors Inc. rounded out the top five. Jim Sullivan came in fourth, his third appearance in the annual rankings. Michael Knott finished fifth.
Andrew Wessel of J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. topped the rankings in 2008.
