Predictive Services Discussion:

A series of atmospheric rivers will impact the West Coast through next week, focused on California where snow levels will fluctuate between 4,000 feet and 8,000 feet. Heavy rain, with many areas likely to exceed several inches and a few exceeding a foot, will fall in the Coast Ranges of California, lower to mid elevations of the Sierra, and the Central Valley into next week. Precipitation, valley rain, and mountain snow will fall across much of the Intermountain West into next week as well with snow levels near 3,000 feet in the north to 7,000 feet in the Southwest. Periods of strong winds are also likely to occur in portions of California and southwest Oregon, especially early next week.

Periods of elevated conditions are likely across portions of the southern High Plains into west and south Texas through mid-next week due to gusty winds and low relative humidity as the storms exit the West. A period of stronger downslope winds is likely today, with areas of critical conditions across eastern New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle, but the timing of any period of stronger winds early to mid-next week remains uncertain. Little to no precipitation is forecast for much of the Plains through next week, with only light precipitation for the Mississippi Valley to the East Coast while showers and thunderstorms bring moderate rain to east Texas and Louisiana this weekend. A return to wetter conditions is possible late next week for portions of the Southeast as well.
